Bedtime Dolly

 This a fun and very quick project to make and the color variations make this a project with endless possibilities. Use small amounts of yarn to crochet this adorable little dolly for a little princess as a cuddly bedtime friend.

SIZE:
24 cm in length and 10 cm in width

MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Double knitting/light worsted yarn
Pink – yarn A
Blue – yarn B
Green – yarn C
White – yarn D
Yellow – yarn E

Hooks & Notions:
Hook – 4.00mm (US F/5 UK 8)
Wool Sewing Needle
Scissors
Fiberfill/Toy Stuffing
Optional – 3 small buttons (2x eyes 1x nose)
Optional – very small amount of black yarn
Optional – Ribbon for hair
Optional – Ribbon or small bead necklace for neck

GAUGE:
22sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10cm
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Instructions:

With yarn A, CH 41
Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook. Work 1 SC into each CH until end (40 SC), turn
Row 2: CH1, work 1 SC into each SC from previous row until end (40 SC), turn

Row 2 is the pattern row and repeated throughout.

Repeat row 2 4  more times (shoes)
Change yarn to B
Repeat row 2 14 more times (pants)
Change yarn to C
Repeat row 2 12 more times (top)
Change yarn to D
Repeat row 2 8 more times (head)
Change yarn to E
Repeat row 2 1 more time

Row 42: For this row only work in front-loops. CH1, work 1 SC into each SC from previous row until end (40 SC), turn
Row 43: For this row only work in back-loops. CH1, work 1 SC into each SC from previous row until end (40 SC), fasten off and weave in ends.

Join yarn E with a SC into the first loop of Row 42 and work as follows:
2DC into next loop, 1 SC into next loop.
*1 SC into next loop, 2DC into next loop, 1 SC into next loop* repeat until end
Into loops of Row 43 work as follows:
*1 SC into next loop, 1DC into next loop, 1 SC into next loop* repeat until end. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing (10 cm)

Weave tail with wool needle through the back stitches of hair. Pull gently on yarn to gather up hair (Careful not to break the yarn) fasten off and weave in ends.

Fold project in half length-ways and with yarn A SL ST together. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing (15 cm)

Weave tail with wool needle through the last row of the head, just beneath the hair. Pull tightly without breaking the yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends.

(If there is still a big opening on top take some yarn and sew opening close)

Cut a tail of 15 cm of yarn C, starting at the back of the dolly, weave tail with wool needle through the last row of the top, just below the first row of the head, DO NOT PULL TIGHT

With some fiberfill/toy stuffing stuff the head firmly. (Do not over-stuff and have the stuffing pouring out through the stitches)

Pull the yarn tightly without breaking, fasten off and weave in ends.

With yarn A cut a tail of 15cm and starting at the first row (feet) work an invisible (barely visible) line  straight up until the last row of the leg part, to create two legs and two feet, fasten off and weave in ends.

With some fiberfill/toy stuffing stuff the body firmly. (Do not over-stuff and have the stuffing pouring out through the stitches). With wool needle sew feet openings close, fasten and weave in ends.

The Finer Details:
Facial Features – What I Did
Eyes (make 2): With yarn B CH2, work 6SC into 2nd CH, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing (to attach eye to head).

*With wool needle sew eyes to head and with some black yarn embroider a French knot into the center of the eye.
*I attached a small green button (0,5 cm) for the nose and sewed a few small straight line with yarn A for the mouth.
*I attached a pink ribbon at the hairline for a pretty bow.
*I made a small blue beaded necklace for the neck ( not advisable if making for a baby)
*I crocheted a small flower and sewed on a flower button for the top.

Small Flower:
CH 6, SL ST into 1st CH.
*CH3, 2DC into circle,CH3 SL ST into circle* repeat 4 more time (5 Petals) fasten off.
