The third in a series of cutesy animal granny squares!
 A cute, easy and fun to crochet animal themed granny square.
Perfect to create any type of project: baby blankets, bags, accessories, decor, even a jacket for the koala enthusiast!
Use color co-ordinated yarn or scraps/leftovers to crochet this adorable square.
Crochet in just less than two hours – depending on skill.
Any yarn or hook can be used, depending on the finished project.
Crochet fun for any granny square lover.

SKILL LEVEL:
Easy

Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.

SIZE:
Approx 6 x 6 inches

MATERIALS:
Yarns: (This is to make 2 squares)
Double knitting/light worsted yarn
Approx 25 grams of beige

Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in brown,pastel blue and pastel pink
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in black and white/cream

Hooks & Notions:
Size 3.50 mm Hook
Yarn Needle

GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect – crocheting the same tension throughout will ensure squares are approx the same size.

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

INSTRUCTIONS

Make a magic circle with beige yarn
Rnd 1: CH3 into circle (counts as 1 DC), work 11 DC into circle, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (12 DC)
Rnd 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 2 DC into next ST. * Work 2 DC into each ST. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (24 DC),
Rnd 3: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 1 DC into next ST. * Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (36 DC)
Rnd 4: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 1 DC into next 2 STS. * Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * until end of round, SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH (48 DC)
Continue as follows – Work in Frontloops Only
*Row 1: Work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 HDC and 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC and 1 TR into next ST, work 1 TR and 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC and 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST, turn
Row 2: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST, SL ST into 1st ST of row 1, turn
Row 3: SL ST into each ST, SL ST into last ST or row 1*
 – first ear made
SL ST into next 4STS, repeat from * to * – second ear made
Fasten off
Join pastel blue or pastel pink yarn into the loop behind the 2 DC STS of the second ear
Rnd 5: CH3, work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into ST (first corner made), *SKIP 2 STS,  work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (second corner made),*SKIP 2 STS,  work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (third corner made),*SKIP 2 STS,  work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times.
Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into next ST (fourth corner made),*SKIP 2 STS,  work 3 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH
Rnd 6: SL ST into next 2 STS, starting in the 2 CH space of first corner, *Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into corner, [work 3 DC into space between the 3 DC clusters of the previous round] x 4. Repeat from  * 3 more times
SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3 CH, fasten off.
change color to brown yarn
Rnd 7: Starting in a corner – *Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into corner, [work 3 DC into space between the 3 DC clusters of the previous round] x 5. Repeat from * 3 more times
SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3 CH, fasten off.
Eyes:
With white/ cream yarn
Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: CH1, work 6 SC into ring
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC into each ST (12 SC)
Rnd 3: Work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 HDC and 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC and 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST (SL ST into next ST and fasten off leave a tail for sewing)
Do this for 1 eye only
Rnd 4: change color to brown, work 1 SC into each ST all around, fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Embroider black pupils onto eyes with black yarn and yarn needle .
Nose:
With black yarn
Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: CH1, work 6 SC into ring
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC into each ST (12 SC)
Rnd 3: Work 2 SC into each ST (12 SC), fasten off and leave a tail for sewing
Sew eyes into position and
nose in-between and just below eyes.
Nose should stand out like a bubble.
