Christmas Skittle Ball Game CAL Part Five

PART FIVE:  Elf & Christmas Tree Skittles

INSTRUCTIONS:
Making The Body & Head 
Theses instructions are used for all the Character Skittles except the Christmas Tree.
 

Ball Body: Approx size 8 cm in diameter
This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

With yarn and 3.50 mm hook Make a magic circle
.
Rnd 1: Work 6 SC into magic circle. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.
Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). Move marker
Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). Move marker
Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next two STS.  Repeat from * around (24 SC). Move marker
Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). Move marker
Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). Move marker
Rnd 7: SC in each ST around (36 SC). Move marker
Rnd 8: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). Move marker
Rnd 9: SC in each ST around (42 SC). Move marker
Rnd 10: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next six STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). Move marker
Rnd 11-13: SC in each ST around (48 SC). Move marker
Rnd 14: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). Move marker
Rnd 15: SC in each ST around (42 SC). Move marker
Rnd 16: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). Move marker
Rnd 17-18: SC in each ST around (36 SC). Move marker
Rnd 19: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). Move marker
Rnd 20: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). Move marker
Rnd 21: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (18 SC). Move marker
Stuff firmly – DO NOT OVER-STUFF ! 
Stuff just enough so that ball is firm and round without the stuffing showing through the stitches.
Rnd 22: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (12 SC). Move marker
Rnd 23: SC2tog across next two STS, *SC2tog across next two STS. Repeat from * around (6 SC).

Fasten off and sew opening close, weave in ends.

Ball Head: Approx size 4,5 cm in diameter
This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

With yarn and 3.50 mm hook Make a magic circle

Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in next ST and 1 SC in each of the next two STS.  Repeat from * around (24 SC). Move marker
Rnd 7: SC in each ST around (24 SC). Move marker
Rnd 8: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (18 SC). Move marker
Rnd 9: SC in each ST around (18 SC). Move marker
Rnd 10: *SC2tog across next two STS and SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (12 SC). Move marker
Stuff firmly – DO NOT OVER-STUFF !

Rnd 11: SC in each ST around (12 SC). Move marker
Rnd 12: SC2tog across next two STS, *SC2tog across next two STS. Repeat from * around (6 SC).

Fasten off and sew opening close, leave tail for sewing onto body.

 

Sew head onto body

 

PART FIVE:  Elf & Christmas Tree Skittles
 
ELF SKITTLE BALL:
With green yarn complete the instructions for the Body and with beige yarn complete the instructions for the Head
CHRISTMAS TREE SKITTLE BALL:

With brown yarn complete the instructions for the Body until Rnd 15, then change yarn to green and continue instructions.

Optional Notions required:
* ‘Stick On’ Eyes/ Safety eyes ( 1 x pairs )
* Small Button – for elf nose
* Small Ribbon Bow
* Optional – Blue Ribbon for scarf
* Craft Glue
* Small amount of fiberfill/ toy stuffing for tree top
ELF SKITTLE BALL:
 
Hat:  Approx size 6,5 cm in length
With white yarn and 4.00 mm hook or 3,50 mm hook CH 18.
Rnd 1:  SL ST into first CH to form ring. CH2 (counts as HDC), 1 HDC into each CH (18 HDC), SL ST into 2nd CH of 2 CH
Cut yarn (leave a long tail for sewing hat to head) and join green yarn with a SL ST
Rnd 2: for this rnd and work into back loops only – CH1, 1 SC into same ST, 1 SC into each ST  (18 SC), SL ST into first SC.
Rnd 3-5: CH1,1 SC into each ST (18 SC), SL ST into first SC
Rnd 6: CH1, SC2tog, 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * until end (12 SC), SL ST into first SC
Rnd 7: CH1, 1 SC into each ST (12 SC), SL ST into first SC
Rnd 8: CH1, SC2tog until end (6 SC), SL ST into first SC
Rnd 9: CH1, SC2tog until end (3 SC) – if working with the 3,50 mm hook this might be a bit tricky – Fasten off and sew top close to form a point.
Optional Bobble: (I attached a small cream ribbon in place of the bobble)
With white yarn and 3.00 mm hook
Rnd 1:  CH2, work 6 SC into 2nd CH from hook
Rnd 2-3: 1 SC into each ST. Fasten off and sew onto top of hat. Weave in ends.

Embroider with some black yarn eyes/glue on Stick On eyes/sew on Safety Eyes

Sew Bobble or Small Ribbon on top of hat. Sew hat onto head.

I did not stuff my elf’s hat because I wanted to have it flop over.
I secured my ‘flop’ with a single stitch before fastening off my hat tail.

I glued my blue ribbon around the elf’s neck for a scarf.
CHRISTMAS TREE SKITTLE BALL:

With green yarn complete the instructions for the Head, BUT work into the BACK-LOOPS only – then continue as follows – NOTE: for this part you will be working back upwards towards the center of the head.

TURN, working into back-loops  work 4 SC into each loop for approx 2 rounds,
then 3 to 2 SC into each loop for approx 4 rounds,
then 3 to 4 SC into each loop until last loop.

  Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
With yarn needle pull yarn through the top center of the tree top so that the yarn is on the inside.
With a small amount of fiberfill/ toy stuffing stuff tree top lightly.
 Sew tree top onto body.
With some red and cream yarn embroider french knots all over tree top.
