Little Boat Toy/Rattle

SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.

SIZE:
Approx 15cm in length and 10cm in width

MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Double knitting/light worsted yarn
50 grams of double knitting/light worsted yarn in: – brown
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in: – dark blue
– dark green
– beige/white
– black

Hooks & Notions:
Size 3.50 mm Hook
Stitch Marker
Yarn Needle
Fiberfill/Toy Stuffing
Optional – Rattle Bell

GAUGE:
22sts x 30 rows = 8x 8cm
Use hook specified or hook size to obtain tension/gauge

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
DECR – work 2 STS together (SC2tog for this pattern)
MM – move stitch marker
SL ST – slip stitch
FO – fasten off

INSTRUCTIONS:

Boat Bottom :

With double knitting/light worsted brown yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

CH21

Row 1: Work 1SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each CH until end (20 SC), turn

Row 2-16: CH1, work 1SC into each SC until end (20 SC), turn

Row 17: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 16SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 18: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 14SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 19: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 12SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 20: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 10SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 21: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 8SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 22: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 6SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 23: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 4SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 24: CH1, SC2tog, work 1SC into 2SC, SC2tog, turn

Row 25: CH1, SC2tog x 2, turn

Row 26: CH1, work 1SC into next 2 STS, continue working in the rnd – work 1SC into the end of each row, work 1SC into each ST of the bottom row (20SC), work 1SC into end of each row (74 SC)

Rnd 27: SL ST into first SC – for this rnd only work in backloops

CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each SC (74 SC)

Rnd 28-32: SL ST into first SC, CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each SC (74 SC)

Rnd 33: SL ST into first SC – for this rnd only work in frontloops

CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each SC (74 SC)

Rnd 34: SL ST into first SC, CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each SC (74 SC) change color to gold yarn on last ST

Rnd 35: SL ST into first SC, CH1, work 1SC into same ST, work 1SC into each SC (74 SC)

Rnd 36: SL ST into first SC, CH3, work 2DC into same ST, skip 2 STS, *SL ST into next ST, CH3, work 2DC into same ST, skip 2 STS*. Repeat from * to * until end. FO and weave in ends.

Boat Deck :

With double knitting/light worsted beige/white yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

CH21

Work rows 1-25 of Boat Bottom

At the end of Row 25, DO NOT TURN continue in the rnd and work 1SC into the end of each row and ST. FO and leave a long tail for sewing.

Boat Bottom Assembly :

With yarn needle attach Boat Deck to Boat Bottom. Match up the loop on the inside of the Boat Bottom and the SC rnd of the Boat Deck.

Before sewing close stuff Boat Bottom with Fiberfill/Toy Stuffing.

Cabin :

With double knitting/light worsted dark blue yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

CH 11

Row 1: Work 1SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1SC into each CH until end (10 SC), turn

Row 2-10: CH1, work 1SC into each SC until end (10 SC) turn

Rnd 11: CH1, work 1SC into next 10 SC, continue in the rnd, work 1SC into each row, work 1SC into bottom STS, work 1SC into each row.

Rnd 12: SL ST into first SC – for this rnd only work in backloops

CH1, work 1SC into each SC (40 SC)

Rnd 13-20: SL ST into first SC.

CH1, work 1SC into each SC (40 SC). FO and leave a tail for sewing.

With yarn needle attach Cabin to Boat Deck.
Stuff with Fiberfill/Toy Stuffing before closing.

Chimney :

With double knitting/light worsted dark green yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

CH2

Rnd 1: Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 4: for this rnd only work in backloops

Work 1SC into each ST until end (18 SC). MM

Rnd 5-6: Work 1SC into each ST until end (18 SC). MM

DO NOT CUT YARN, join beige/white yarn

Rnd 7: Work 1SC into each ST until end (18 SC). MM Cut Beige/White yarn continue working with dark green yarn

Rnd 8-20: Work 1SC into each ST until end (18 SC). MM

After last rnd, FO and leave a tail for sewing.

With yarn needle attach Chimney to Boat Deck.
Insert Rattle Bell and stuff with Fiberfill/Toy Stuffing before closing.

Windows : (Make 4)

With double knitting/light worsted black  yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

CH2

Rnd 1: Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). FO and leave a tail for sewing.

With Beige/White yarn SL ST into Rnd 2. FO and weave in ends.
