SKILL LEVEL:

Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.

MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Medium worsted (No 4) or DK (double knitting)
Elle Charity DK  (Blue; White; Red; Beige; Orange)
Small amounts approx 20 – 50 yards
Hooks & Notions:
Hook 5,00 mm
Hook 4, 00 mm
Yarn needle
2 Small buttons (white & red)
Stick Em (Glue On) eyes – this is optional – you can embroider or sew on buttons for eyes.

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet

Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.

These guys take about an hour to make each!

INSTRUCTIONS:

SNOWMAN GIFT ENVELOPE

Hook 5, 00 mm

Head:

With white yarn CH 13

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 3-12: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 13: working in back-loops only; CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 14-24: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 25: working in back-loops only; CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 26: SC2tog; 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN

ROW 27-31: SC2tog; 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN

ROW 32: SC2tog; CH 6/8/10 (depending on button size); then SL ST into top of SC2tog; and SL ST all around piece; then fasten off and weave in ends.

Hat:

Join blue yarn to first loop exposed on ROW 25; work up 12 SC; TURN

ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 3-6: SC2tog; 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; you should have 4 STS left; TURN

Work 4 ROWS: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (4 SC); TURN

Next ROW: SC2tog twice; TURN

Next ROW: SC2tog; fasten off and weave in ends.

Add a pom pom  to the top of the hat.

NOSE:

With orange yarn and 4, 00 mm hook CH 12

Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; then work 1 SC into next 2 STS;
work 1 HDC into next 3 STS; then work 1 DC into 3 STS; and then work 1 TR into last 3 STS.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Hook 5, 00 mm

Head:

With red yarn CH 13

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 3-12: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN – Note: change to beige yarn on last st

ROW 13: working in back-loops only; CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 14-24: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN – Note: change to red yarn on last st

ROW 25: working in back-loops only; CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 26: SC2tog; 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN

ROW 27-31: SC2tog; 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN

ROW 32: SC2tog; CH 6/8/10 (depending on button size); SL ST into top of SC2tog; SL ST all around piece; fasten off and weave in ends.

ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (12 SC); TURN

ROW 3-6: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each ST until last 2 STS; SC2tog; you should have 4 STS left; TURN

Work 4 ROWS: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end (4 SC); TURN

Next ROW: SC2tog twice; TURN

Next ROW: SC2tog; then fasten off and weave in ends.

Make a magic circle

RND 1: work 6 SC into ring;

NEXT RND: work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)

NEXT RND: Repeat the following all around – work 2 SC into next SC, work 1 SC into next SC. (18 SC).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

BUILDING YOUR SANTA:

Cut approx 25 – 30 x  20 cm length yarn
Insert the hook into the outside loop of a SL ST; then wrap yarn over hook and
pull though loop. Wrap the tail over the hoop (yarn over) and then pull
though the white loop – then pull to ‘lock’ – see photos. Trim beard.
This is a basic ‘tassel’

‘Roll Up’ some white yarn several times – see photos above;
then wrap yarn several times around the center.
Using a yarn needle, make a knot then trim the tails.

Sew nose into the center of the ‘face’ then sew mustache just underneath.
