WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
The Ark applique (3 pieces), Dove applique and assorted Animal finger puppets.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Noah’s Ark:

“GOD WANTED TO CLEAN THE EARTH OF ALL SIN.
HE INSTRUCTED NOAH TO BUILD AN ARK AND PLACE WITHIN TWO OF ALL EARTH’S ANIMALS.
GOD THE SENT THE GREAT FLOOD. NOAH, HIS FAMILY AND THE ANIMALS WERE SAVED AND
COULD LIVE UPON THE NEW CLEAN EARTH.”

The Ark:

Bottom:

with dark brown yarn – Make a magic ring/circle OR CH 4 (this counts as 1 DC and starting CH)

ROW 1; Work 6 DC into ring (5 DC into starting CH); TURN
ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST. Work 2 DC into each ST across (12 DC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT ST.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * across (18 DC); TURN
ROW 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT 2 STS.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * across (24 DC); TURN
ROW 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT 3 STS.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 3 STS. Repeat from * across (30 DC); TURN
ROW 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT 4 STS.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 4 STS. Repeat from * across (36 DC); TURN
ROW 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT 5 STS.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 5 STS. Repeat from * across (42 DC); TURN
ROW 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into NEXT 6 STS.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 6 STS. Repeat from * across (48 DC);
DO NOT TURN
Continue working along the bottom edge;
ROW 9: work 2 SC into each row (32 SC); TURN
ROW 10-11: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST across (32 SC); TURN
ROW 12: CH 1; work 1 SC into NEXT 4 STS; CH 24; SKIP 24 SC; work 1 SC into LAST 4 STS; TURN
ROW 13: CH 1 work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 24 over the chain/OR work 1 SC into each CH (24); work 1 SC into last 4 SC; TURN
ROW 14-15: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST across (32 SC).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Middle:

with caramel or lighter brown yarn – CH 22

ROW 1: Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into each CH across (21 DC); TURN
ROW 2-5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each DC across (21 DC); TURN
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Top:

 

 

with dark brown yarn – CH 23

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH across (22 SC); TURN
ROW 2: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each SC until LAST 2 SC; SC2tog; (20 SC)TURN
ROW 3: SC2tog x 2; work 1 SC into each SC until LAST 4 SC; SC2tog; (16 SC) TURN
ROW 4: SC2tog x 2; work 1 SC into each SC until LAST 4 SC; SC2tog; (12 SC) TURN
ROW 5: SC2tog x 2; work 1 SC into each SC until LAST 4 SC; SC2tog; (8 SC) TURN
ROW 6: SC2tog x 4 (4 SC); TURN
ROW 7: SC2tog x 2 (2 SC);  SL ST all around top;
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

 

THE DOVE

Body:

With white yarn – Make a magic circle

RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)
RND 3: Work 2 SC into first 6 STS, work 1 SC and 1 DC into next ST, CH 5, SL ST into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next 3 CH STS, work 2 SC over the DC and 1 SC into next 4 SC, work 1 HDC, 1 DC, 6 TR, 1 DC into next ST, SL ST into same ST.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Wings:  CH 11

Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into next 4 CH STS, work 1 HDC into next 2 CH STS, work 1 DC into last 3 CH STS.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Beak: Attach yellow at the side of the face and make a ‘picot’ – CH 3; SL ST into the 2nd CH – then SL ST into the SAME ST you joined your yarn.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Glue a 10 mm googly eye onto face.

TIP – if making for small (toddlers) rather embroider eyes or sew on small buttons securely.

BUILDING THE PLAYBOOK:
I added a hooks & loops to the top for the Dove & Leaf.
The 2 wooden buttons are optional – you can add plain crochet circles too!
You can crochet a leaf too!

With dark/olive yarn – CH 7

Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook;
work 1 HDC into next 2 CH;
work 1 DC next 2 CH;
work 6 DC into last CH – continue working along the bottom of the chain (opposite the STS just worked);
work 1 DC into next 2 CH;
work 1 HDC into next 2 CH;
SL ST into last CH.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
