Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – Double knitting/light worsted/cotton yarn

  • 50 grams of double knitting/light worsted/cotton yarn, in caramel
  • Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn, in red, cream and green

Hook & Notions:

  • Size 3.50mm Hook
  • Small amount fiberfill/toy stuffing
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker

Size:

Box-12 cm in width and 5 cm in height
Lid-16 cm in width and 5 cm in height

Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

INSTRUCTIONS:

Box Base:

Rnd 1: With caramel yarn, CH 6. SL ST to form a ring.  Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC) and work 15 DC into ring. (16 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 2: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 2 DC in each ST until end. (32 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 3: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 1 DC in next ST. *2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next ST. Repeat from * until end. (48 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 4: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 1 DC in next ST. *2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next two STS. Repeat from * until end. (64 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH. TURN

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Rnd 5: CH 1, SC in BACK LOOP of each DC from previous round. (64 SC) MM

Rnd 6-15: Work 1 SC in each ST around. (64 SC) MM

Rnd 16: Work 1SC in FRONT LOOP of each SC from previous round. (64 SC) MM

Rnd 17-26: Work 1 SC in each ST around. (64 SC) MM

Shaping the bottom box:

Fasten off when last rnd is completed; leave a long tail for sewing. Flip top 11 rnds over, shape box. Sew exposed loops from rnd 5 and last rnd together. This creates a sturdy box.

Box Lid:

Rnd 1: With caramel yarn, CH 6. SL ST to form a ring.  Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC) and work 15 DC into ring. (16 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 2: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 2 DC in each ST until end. (32 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 3: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 1 DC in next ST. *2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next ST. Repeat from * until end. (48 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 4: Make a 3 CH (counts as 1st DC), 1 DC in same ST, and 1 DC in next ST. *2 DC in next ST, 1 DC in next two STS. Repeat from * until end. (64 DC) SL ST into top CH of 3 CH.

Rnd 5: Make a 2 CH (counts as 1st HDC), 1 HDC in same ST, and 1 HDC in next three STS. (80 HDC) SL ST into top CH of 2 CH.

Rnd 6: CH 1, SC in BACK LOOP of each HDC of previous round. (80 SC) MM

Rnd 7: Work 1 SC in each ST around (80 SC). MM

Change to cream yarn

Rnd 8-9: Work 1 SC in each ST around (80 SC). MM

Change to red yarn

Rnd 10: Work 1 SC in each ST around (80 SC). MM

Rnd 11: *Work 1 SC in next 4 STS, work 1 Bobble in next ST. Repeat from * until end of row (16 Bobble made).

How to make a bobble:

YOH – yarn over hook

(YOH, insert in ST, pull yarn thru, 3 loops on hook, YOH, pull yarn thru first 2 loops, 2 loops on hook, YOH, insert in ST, pull yarn thru, 4 loops on hook, YOH, pull yarn thru first 2 loops,  3 loops on hook, YOH, insert in ST, pull yarn thru,  5 loops on hook, YOH, pull yarn thru first 2 loops, YOH, pull yarn thru all 4 loops on hook) 1 bobble made

Change to cream yarn:

Rnd 12-13: Work 1 SC in each ST around (80 SC). MM

Change to caramel yarn:

Rnd 14-15: Work 1 SC in each ST around (80 SC). MM Fasten off on when last rnd is completed. Weave in all ends and trim neatly.

The Lid should fit snugly around the bottom.

Join cream yarn with a SC into any BACK LOOP of any ST of the last rnd and work as follows:

NOTE: Joining SC counts as first SC

Rnd 16: *Work 1 SC in next ST, 1 HDC and 1 DC in next ST, 1 DC, 1 DTR and 1 DC in next ST, 1 DC and 1 HDC in next ST, 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * 15 times more.  16 petals made.

Rnd 17: Continue around working into the FRONT LOOPS of rnd 15.

*SL ST in next ST, SC in next ST, 3HDC in next ST, sc in ST, SL ST in next ST. Repeat from * 15 times more. 16 picots made

 

Strawberry

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Rnd 1: With yarn, CH 2. Work 5 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in first ST and SC around (6 SC).MM

Rnd 3: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 4 – 5: SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 6: *DECR across first two STS. Repeat from * around (6 SC). FO and lightly stuff to form shape.

Leaf: With yarn, CH 4. Work 2 SC across and SL ST in first CH. *CH 3. Work 2 SC across and SL ST in first CH. Repeat from * three times more. FO and sew onto strawberry.

 Sew Strawberry onto top of lid.
