Skill Level – Easy

Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing. Concentration required.

MATERIALS:

Yarn: Double knitting/light worsted yarn/cotton

  • 50 grams of double knitting/light worsted yarn in pink, dark pink, purple, light and dark green
  • Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in white, black, red, light and dark yellow

Hooks & Notions:

  • Size 3.50 mm Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Toy Stuffing / Fiberfill
  • 6 x 10 cm in diameter, 2 cm thick batting circles – Note: if using different yarn and hook cut circles to fit inside the bottom part of the body –foam can be used

 

GAUGE:

22 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
MM – move marker (stitch)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Basic Body – Make six in assorted color

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Rnd 1: With choice of color, CH 2. Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM

Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). MM

Rnd 8: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). MM

Rnd 9: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next seven STS. Repeat from * around (54 SC). MM

Rnd 10: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next eight STS. Repeat from * around (60 SC). MM

Rnd 11: For this rnd only work in the back loops. SC in each ST around (60 SC). MM

Base should measure approximately 10 cm in diameter

Insert foam/batting

Rnd 15: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next eight STS. Repeat from * around (54 SC). MM

Rnd 16: SC in each ST around (54 SC). MM

Rnd 17: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next seven STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). MM

Rnd 18: SC in each ST around (48 SC). MM

Rnd 19: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). MM

Rnd 20: SC in each ST around (42 SC). MM

Rnd 21: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM

Stuff bottom part firmly with fiberfill/stuffing

Rnd 35: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 36: For this rnd only work in the back loops. SC in each ST around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 37: For this rnd only work in the back loops. *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 38: SC in each ST around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 39: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 40: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 41: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (12 SC). MM

Complete stuffing firmly with fiberfill/stuffing

Rnd 42: * DECR across next two STS. Repeat from * around (6 SC). FO Sew opening close and weave in ends.

 

Skittle One – Flower and Leaves

Attach choice of color at any one of the front loops on Rnd 33 of body with a SL ST

Leaf Rnd: CH 9, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (8 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 9. Repeat from * until last 2 loops, SL ST in each of last two loops. (6 Leaf roots made).

Continue as follows working up and down the leaf root:

SL ST into first CH of first leaf root, *CH 2 (counts as HDC), 1 DC in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 HDC in next CH, 1 SC in next CH, (CH 2, SL ST in first CH) – picot made

Continue down other side of leaf root as follows: 1 SC in next SC, 1 HDC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 TR in next SC, 1 TR in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 HDC in last SC, join with a SL ST into first CH on next leaf root.

Continue until 6 leaves made. FO weave in ends

Attach choice of color to the last front loop of row 36 with a SL ST – note going to work from first top petal to last bottom petal

Petal Root Rnd 1: CH 7, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (6 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 7. Repeat from * until 8 petal roots made, SL ST into next 4 loops

Petal Root Rnd 2: CH 8, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (7 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 8. Repeat from * until last loop (8 petal roots made) – Note: 16 petal roots in total.

Petal Pattern Rnd 1: SL ST in first petal root made in row one and continue as follows *CH 2 (counts as HDC), 1 DC in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 HDC in next CH, 1 SC in next CH

Continue down other side of petal root as follows: 1 SC in next SC, 1 HDC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 TR in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 HDC in last SC, join with a SL ST into first CH on next petal root.

Continue until 8 Petals made

Petal Pattern Rnd 2: SL ST in next petal root and continue as follows

Skittle Two – Flower and Leaves

Attach choice of color at any one of the front loops on row 33 of body with a SL ST

Leaf Rnd: CH 5, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (4 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 5. Repeat from * until last 2 loops, SL ST in each of last two loops. (6 Leaf roots made).

Continue as follows working up and down the leaf root:

SL ST into first CH of first leaf root, *CH 2 (counts as HDC), 1 DC in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 SC in next CH, (CH 4, SL ST in 4th CH from hook) – picot made

Continue down other side of leaf root as follows: 1 SC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 HDC in last SC, join with a SL ST into first CH on next leaf root.

Continue until 6 leaves made. FO weave in ends

Flower Inner:

Attach choice of color to the last front loop of row 36 with a SC

Rnd 1: 1 SC in each of next 23 loops (24 SC), join with a SL ST in first SC made

Rnd 2: Work 1 SC, 1 DC, 1 SC in each SC until end.

Flower Petals:

Join with a SL ST to the last front loop of row 35 with a SC – directly beneath first SC row of Flower Inner

Petal Root Rnd: CH 9, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (8 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 9. Repeat from * until last 2 loops, SL ST in each of last two loops. (8 petal roots made)

Petal Pattern Rnd : SL ST in first petal root made and continue as follows

*CH 2 (counts as HDC), 1 TR in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 DC in next CH,  1 HDC in next CH, 1 SC in next CH, (CH 4, SL ST in 4th CH from hook) – picot made

Skittle Three – Flower and Leaves

Attach choice of color at any one of the front loops on row 33 of body with a SL ST

Rnd 2: 1 SC, 2 DC, 2 TR, 2 DC, 1 SC into each 3 chain space.  6 Leaves made. FO weave in ends

Attach choice of color to the last front loop of row 36 with a SL ST

Petal Rnd 1: CH 3, *skip next 2 loops, SL ST in next loop, CH 3. Repeat from * until 8 3 chain spaces have been made. SL ST into first loop.

Petal Rnd 2: 1 SC, 4 DC, 1 SC into each 3 chain space. 8 Petals made

Petal Rnd 3: SL ST into first loop of row 35

CH 5, *skip next 2 loops, SL ST in next loop, CH 3. Repeat from * until 8 3 chain spaces have been made.

Petal Rnd 4: 1 SC, 3 DC, 1 TR, 3 DC, 1 SC into each 3 chain space.

8 Petals made – 16 Petals in total. FO weave in ends

Bumble Bee Ball

Size:  9 cm in diameter

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Rnd 1: With yellow, CH 2. Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 6: SC in each ST around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM

Wings:

With white, CH 11. SC in 2nd CH from hook. 1 SC in next CH, 1 DC in next 3 CHs, 1 TR in next 5 CHs, 6 TR in last CH, working up the opposite side, 1 TR in next 5 CHs, 1 DC in next 3 CHS, 1 SC in next last CH.

FO and weave in one tail, but leave a tail for sewing wing to ball.

Mark the middle of the ball with a pin or marker.

Sew wings to ball and weave in ends.

Pin where eyes will be and embroider French knots for eyes. Beads or safety eyes can be used if preferred.

Ladybird Ball

Size:  9 cm in diameter

Pin where eyes will be and embroider French knots for eyes. Beads or safety eyes can be used if preferred.

Sew face to ball, stuff lightly, FO and weave in ends.

Weave a long black thread down the middle of the Ladybird’s back. Pull tight slightly. FO and weave in ends.

Spots: Make six

With black, CH 2. Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. FO and leave a tail for sewing spots onto ball.

Sew spots randomly onto the red part of the ball.

Size:  5 cm in length worked with a 3.50 mm hook and double knitting/light worsted yarn

Number One:

With white, CH 12. Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and 1 SC in each Ch (11 SC). FO and leave a tail for sewing.

Number Two:

With white, CH 23. Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and then work as follow in the next 21 CHs –  SC2tog, SC2tog, 1 SC, SC2tog, SC2tog, SC2tog, 5 SC, 3 SC in next CH, 4 SC. FO and leave a tail for sewing.

Number Three:

With white, CH 28. Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and then work as follow in the next 26 CHs – 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, 1 SC, 3 SC in next CH, 1 SC, 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, 1 SC. FO and leave a tail for sewing.

Number Four:

With white, CH 29. Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and then work as follow in the next 27 CHs – 5 SC, SC4tog, 6 SC, SC4tog, 8 SC. FO and leave a tail for sewing. Form the shape four and sew the two ends over each other.

Number Five:

With white, CH 23. Work 1 SC in 2nd CH from hook and then work as follow in the next 21 CHs – 2 SC, 2 SC in next CH, 1 SC, 2 SC in next CH, 1 SC, 2 SC in next CH, 1 SC, 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, SC4tog, 1 SC, 1 SC, 1 SC. FO and leave a tail for sewing.

Number Six:

With white, CH 12. SL ST to form ring, SC in each CH (12 SC). SL ST in first SC, CH 6, SC in 2nd CH from hook, 3 SC, 2 SC in next CH, SL ST in 2nd SC of ring. FO and leave a tail for sewing.
