Skill Level:

Easy – Intermediate. Basic stitches, simple color changes, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration and patience required.

Size:

Approx 18 cm in diameter with leaves, 14 cm without.

Materials:

Yarns:

Double knitting/light worsted yarn

  • 50 grams of double knitting/light worsted yarn in coral pink, dark green and light green
  • Small amount of double knitting/light worsted yarn in light and dark yellow

 

Hooks & Notions:

  • Size 3.50 mm Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker
  • Optional – beads and ribbon

Gauge:

22sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10cm
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
SL ST – slip stitch
MM – move stitch marker
DECR – decrease
FO – fasten off

INSTRUCTIONS:

Purse:

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Rnd 1: With light green color, CH 2. Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC).MM

Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM

Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). MM

Rnd 8: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). MM

Rnd 9: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next seven STS. Repeat from * around (54 SC). MM

Rnd 10: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next eight STS. Repeat from * around (60 SC). MM

Rnd 11: For this rnd only work in the back loops. *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next nine STS. Repeat from * around (66 SC). MM

Rnd 12-14: SC in each ST around (66 SC). MM

Rnd 15: For this row only work in the back loops.

*Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ten STS. Repeat from * around (72 SC). MM

Rnd 16: SC in each ST around (72 SC). Cut yarn; leave a long tail to weave in.

Color Change:

Rnd 17: With coral pink. For this row only work in the back loops. SC in each ST around (72 SC). MM

Rnd 18: Turn and work in front loops of Rnd 16

* Work 1 SC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 2 TR, 2 TR, 2 TR, 2 DC, 2 DC, and 1 SC over the next 9 STS. Repeat from * 7 times more. (8 Petals)

Rnd 19: Turn and work in back loops of Rnd 17

SC in each ST around (72 SC). MM

Rnd 20: Turn and work in front loops of Rnd 17

* Work 1 SC, 2 HDC, 2 HDC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 2 DC, 2 HDC, 2 HDC, and 1 SC over the next 9 STS. Repeat from * 7 times more. (8 Petals)

Rnd 21: Turn and continue to work in the round

* DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next ten STS. Repeat from * around (66 SC). MM

Rnd 22: * DECR across first two STS and 1 SC in next nine STS. Repeat from * around (60 SC). MM

Rnd 23: SL ST in first SC, CH 2 (counts as first HDC), *work 1 HDC in next SC. Repeat from * until end. (60 HDC)

Rnd 24-26: SL ST in 2nd CH of 2 CH made, CH 2 (counts as first HDC), *work 1 HDC in next HDC. Repeat from * until end. (60 HDC)

Rnd 27: (Ribbon Eyelet Row)

SL ST in 2nd CH of 2 CH made, CH 3 (counts as first HDC and 1 CH), *work 1 HDC in next HDC, CH 1, SKIP next HDC. Repeat from * until end.

Cut yarn and join yellow.

Rnd 28: SL ST in 2nd CH of 2 CH made, CH 2 (counts as first HDC). Work 1 HDC in each HDC of previous row, SKIPPING CH Space until end. (31 HDC)

Rnd 29: A HDC has 3 loops, for this row work only in the MIDDLE loop.  SL ST in 2nd CH of 2 CH made, CH 2 (counts as first HDC), *work (1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC) in next HDC; work 1 HDC in next HDC. Repeat from * until end.

Rnd 30: For this rnd only work in front loop of previous row. In every loop work (1 SC, 1 HDC and 1 SC) until end. FO

Weave in ends.

Weave in ribbon.

Turn purse so that the bottom is facing up and towards you. Join dark green yarn in any loop of Row 15 with a SL ST. Turn work around with top.

Leaf Rnd: CH 9, *1 SC in 2nd CH from hook, 1 SC in each CH till end (8 SC), SL ST in next 3 loops, CH 9. Repeat from * until last 2 loops, SL ST in each of last two loops. (22 Leaf roots made).

Continue as follows working up and down the leaf root:

SL ST into first CH of first leaf root, *CH 2 (counts as HDC), 1 DC in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 TR in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 DC in next CH, 1 HDC in next CH, 1 SC in next CH, (CH 2, SL ST in first CH) – picot made.

Continue down other side of leaf root as follows: 1 SC in next SC, 1 HDC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 TR in next SC, 1 TR in next SC, 1 DC in next SC, 1 HDC in last SC, join with a SL ST into first CH on next leaf root.

Continue until 22 leaves made.
FO and weave in ends.

Handles:

With light green:

SL ST into an inside loop; CH 30, SL ST into an inside loop on the opposite side; SC across chain (30 SC).

SL ST into next inside loop; CH 30, SL ST into the next inside loop on the opposite side; SC across chain (30 SC).

SL ST in same loop, FO. Cut yarn and weave in ends.

Small Flower:

With dark yellow or coral pink yarn:

CH 6 and SL ST to form a ring.

*Work 3 CH, 2 DC into ring, 3 CH and then SL ST into ring – First Petal made.

Repeat from * 4 times more.

5 Petals made.

I added some beads to the ribbon, and then attached the flowers for the finishing touch.

Optional Corner:

Instead of using a ribbon, crochet a drawstring – exp CH 50, SC in each chain until end

Instead of using the flowers – use buttons or big beads.

Crochet several small flowers and attach them to the handles, or sew them onto the purse.
