A guide in as to how I made this poncho
can be found at the end of this post.
I really wanted to make something special for my niece for her birthday this year. She loves to read and every year I give her books, but this year I thought maybe it would be nice to give her something warm and special to cuddle up with, while enjoying a good read in the cold winter months ahead 🙂
Skill Level: Easy
Projects using yarn with basic stitches, repetitive stitch patterns, simple color changes, and simple shaping and finishing.
Very basic and easy design. Quick to work once you start with the stripe rounds.
Elle Family Knit Dk (Light worsted yarn, 8ply)
2 x 50 gr each of double knitting/light worsted yarn in
– aran (cream)
– stone (grey)
– crocus (purple)
– marron (chocolate)
– antique (brown)
XS/S – M/L – XL/XXL. Crochet Hook size 4.0mm/H/8 – or size needed to get 1 granny square = 8 x 8 cm (8,5 x 8,5 cm with SC border) and to get 4 tr-groups in width x 5 1/2 tr-groups vertically = 10 x 10 cm
Although I made this poncho using the Drops Design Pattern, I have made two changes. I have added a Single Crochet border around my Granny Squares and I have added a Double Crochet neck edging round.

I have been a crochet designer for more than 10 years. I love to think outside the box and to try and do things a bit differently. I love to learn new techniques and to challenge myself. I firmly believe that crochet should fun and evoke joy and pleasure. Creating and designing is one of my life's passions.
