Easter Appliqué Basket

SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing. Concentration required for neat finishing.
SIZE:
9cm in diameter and 11cm in length
 
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Small amounts in double knitting/light worsted yarn, in purple, blue, pink, white and green
Hooks & Notions:
Size 3,50mm Hook
Yarn Needle
Optional – beads and ribbon
GAUGE:
22sts x 30 rows = 8 x 8cm
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Basket:
With purple yarn: CH4
Rnd 1: Work 11DC in 4th CH from hook. (12DC) – first 3CH counts as DC. SL ST in 3rd of 3CH, turn
Rnd 2: 3CH (counts as DC), work 1DC in same ST, *work 2 DC in next ST. Repeat from * until end, SL ST in 3rd of 3CH, turn (24DC)
Rnd 3: 3CH (counts as DC), work 1DC in same ST, work 1 DC in next ST. *Work 2 DC in next ST, work 1DC in next ST. Repeat from * until end, SL ST in 3rd of 3CH, turn (36DC)
Rnd 4: 3CH (counts as DC), work 1DC in same ST, work 1 DC in next 2 STS. *Work 2 DC in next ST, work 1DC in next 2 STS. Repeat from * until end, SL ST in 3rd of 3CH, turn (48DC)
Rnd 5: For this rnd only work in back loops – 3CH (counts as DC), work 1DC in each DC of previous rnd, turn (48DC)
Rnd 6 – 15: Cut yarn and join in new color yarn.
3CH (counts as DC), work 1DC in each DC of previous rnd, turn (48DC)
Color sequence:
Pink, white, green, blue and purple
Rnd 16: SL ST in each ST until end. FO and weave in ends.
Bunny Appliqué:
With any color yarn CH4
Rnd 1: Work 11 DC into 4th CH from hook (12DC)
Rnd 2: CH 1, 1 SC into top of 3rd CH of 3 CH, work 1 SC into next 3 DC, CH 8, work 1 HDC into 3rd CH from hook, work 1 HDC into next 5 CH, SKIP a DC, work 1 SC into next 2 DC, CH 8, work 1 HDC into 3rd CH from hook, work 1 HDC into next 5 CH, SKIP a DC, work 1 SC into next 4 DC. FO and leave a tail for sewing.
I used two bunny appliqués for my basket
Egg Appliqué:
With any color yarn CH4
Rnd 1: Work 4 DC into 4th CH from hook, then work 2 TR, then work 1 DTR, then work 2 TR and then work 4 DC. FO and leave a tail for sewing.
Sew Bunny and Egg appliqués to basket. I sewed some beads into the middle of my bunnies and eggs.
Basket Handle:
With any purple yarn CH32
Row 1: Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook, work 1 DC into each CH until end. (30 DC). FO and weave in end.
Join blue yarn at beginning of row and work 1 SC into every ST on both sides and 4 SC at the edges.
FO and leave a long tail for sewing.
Handle Assembly: 
Sew handle onto one side of basket across five/six stitches. Weave tail through handle to the other side. Sew handle onto side of basket across five/six stitches. Weave tail back through handle, cut yarn and trim.
Add some ribbon on the sides.
