PART ONE:
12 Small Squares and 1 Large Square
SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
SIZE:
Small Square – approx 7 cm x 7 cm
Large Square – approx 33 cm x 28 cm
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in various colors or
various colors in any yarn available
IMPORTANT NOTE – USE THE SAME TYPE OF YARN THROUGH OUT THE PROJECT!
Don’t stress – the size will just differ if different types are used 🙂
Hooks & Notions:
Size 3.50 Hook / or 4.00 Hook ( I used a 3.50 Hook)
Yarn Needle
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect as long as all the blocks are approx. the same size
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
The Small Square: (Make 12)
Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring, CH2, *work 3 DC into ring, CH2. Repeat from * 2 times more. SL ST into top of 3 CH
Rnd 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC from previous round, working 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner. SL ST into top of 3 CH
Rnd 3: CH3 (counts as 1 DC) repeat round 2. SL ST into top of 3 CH, fasten off and weave in ends.
The Large Square:
CH 54
Row 1: Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook, work 1 DC into each CH until end, turn
Row 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC until end, turn,
change color
Row 3: CH1, work 1 SC into same ST, work 1 SC into each DC until end, turn
change color
Row 4: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC until end, turn,
Row 5: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC until end, turn,
change color
Row 6: CH1, work 1 SC into same ST, work 1 SC into each DC until end, turn
change color
Repeat row 4 to 6 until 30 rows have been worked counting from the first row.
Large Square Border:
Work a SC border all around square as follows –
Starting at 1st stitch on last row worked – work 3 SC into ST, work 1 SC into each ST until last ST, work 3 SC into last ST, continue down side of rows – work 2 SC into each DC row and work 1 SC into each SC row, continue until first row, work 3 SC into corner ST, work 1 SC into each foundation CH, work 3 SC into last ST, continue up side of rows – work 2 SC into each DC row and work 1 SC into each SC row. SL ST into first SC made, fasten off and weave in ends.
