
PART THREE:
Sewing, Making Bigger and a Single Square
SKILL LEVEL:
Easy to Intermediate
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
SIZE:
Solid Granny: 8 cm x 8 cm
Big Circles Square: 40 cm x 40 cm
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in various colors or
various colors in any yarn available
IMPORTANT NOTE – USE THE SAME TYPE OF YARN THROUGH OUT THE PROJECT!
Don’t stress – the size will just differ if different types are used 🙂
Hooks & Notions:
Size 4,00 mm
Yarn Needle
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect as long as all the blocks are approx. the same size
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
The Solid Granny: (Make 1)

Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring, *CH2, work 3 DC into ring. Repeat from * 2 more times, SL ST into top of 3rd CH
change color
Rnd 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC, work 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner. SL ST into top of 3rd CH
change color
Rnd 3: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST, work 3 SC into each corner, SL ST into first SC
Fasten off and weave in all ends
Some Sewing and a bit of Crocheting:

Sew the six small squares together like shown in the photo
Join yarn into one corner and work 1 SC into each ST until end (27 STS)
Row 2 – 4: CH 1 Work 1 SC into each St until end (27 SC)


Sew a Swirly square against one side

Some Sewing and Making Bigger:

Sew Circle Squares together as shown in photo

I use the Whipstitch method to sew my squares together 🙂

Complete sewing Circles Squares together so that you
have a big square of 3 x 3
Join yarn into the middle SC of a corner, CH3, work 1 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into same ST
Continue working 1 DC into each ST, working 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner.

Rnd 2: Work 1 SC into each ST, working 3 SC into each corner (into the 2 CH space)
change color
Rnd 3: Work 1 DC into each ST, working 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner (into the middle SC)

change color
Rnd 4: Work 1 SC into each ST, working 3 SC into each corner (into the 2 CH space)
change color
Rnd 5: Work 1 DC into each ST, working 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner (into the middle SC)
change color
Rnd 6: Work 1 SC into each ST, working 3 SC into each corner (into the 2 CH space). Fasten off and weave in ends
