Alternative Circle In A Square|Creative Crochet Workshop

Easy – Intermediate
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.

Yarn: medium worsted yarn
Color – 4 colors – color change indicted in pattern

Hook: 4.00 mm

Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR = triple crochet

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a magic circle
RND 1: CH 1, work 8 SC into ring, SL ST into first SC

RND 2: CH 1, work 1 SC into same place, [CH 2, work 1 SC into next ST] 7 times, CH 2 join with a SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 3: Join new color into any 2 CH space.
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into the same space, [CH 1, work 3 DC into next 2 CH space] 7 times, CH 1, SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 4: Join new color into any 1 CH space.
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same space. [CH 1, SKIP next ST, work 2 DC into next ST, CH 1, SKIP next ST, work 2 DC into next 1 CH space] 7 times. CH 1, SKIP next ST, work 2 DC into next ST,CH 1, SKIP next ST, SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 5: Join new color into any 1 CH space.
CH 1, work 1 SC into same space, [CH 2, work 1 SC into next 1 CH space] 15 times, CH 2, SL ST into first SC
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 6: Join new color into any 2 CH space.
CH 3 (counts as 1DC), work 2 DC into same space, [CH 1, work 3 DC into 2 CH space] 15 times, CH 1, SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 7: Join new color into any 1 CH space.
CH 1, work 1 SC into same space, [CH 3, work 1 SC into next 1 CH space] 15 times, CH 2, SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
NOTE: your circle may bubble – this will flatten out as you continue to work – if it bubbles too much your tension might be too tight!

RND 8: Join new color into any 3 CH space.
CH 1, *work 4 SC into same space, [work 1 HDC, 3 DC] into next 3 CH space, [work 1 TR, 2 CH, 1 TR] into next SC, [work 3 DC, 1 HDC] into next 3 CH space, work 4 SC into next 3 CH space. Repeat from * 3 times more. SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 9: Join new color into any 2 CH corner space.
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), [work 1 TR and 1 DC] into same space. Work 1 DC into every ST, working [1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC] into every 2 CH corner space. change to new color,SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.

RND 10: 
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), *[work 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC] into next TR, work 1 DC into every DC until corner TR. Repeat from * until end of round.
change to new color,SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.

RND 11: 
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into next DC *[work 1 DC, 1 TR, 1 DC] into next TR, work 1 DC into every DC until corner TR. Repeat from * until end of round. SL ST to 3rd CH of 3 CH.

RND 12: 
CH 1, work 1 SC into each DC of previous round and 3 SC into each corner TR. SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
