PART FOUR
Spiral Square: (Make Two)
Note: For this square a STITCH MARKER is used to mark the start of each ROUND
CH 2
RND 1: Work [2 SC, 2 HDC, 8 DC] into 2nd CH from hook (12 STS);
FOR RND 2-5 WORK INTO BACK LOOPS ONLY!
RND 2: Work 2 DC into next ST (place STITCH MARKER into 1 ST DC);
work 2 DC into each ST until end (24 STS);
RND 3: Work 2 DC into next ST (place STITCH MARKER into 1 ST DC); work 1 DC into next ST;
*Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end (36 STS);
RND 4: Work 2 DC into next ST (place STITCH MARKER into 1 ST DC); work 1 DC into next 2 STS;
*Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * until end (48 STS);
RND 5: Work 2 DC into next ST (place STITCH MARKER into 1 ST DC); work 1 DC into next 3 STS;
*Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next 3 STS. Repeat from * until LAST 4 STS; work 1 DC into next ST; work 1 HDC into same ST; work 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 STS. (60 STS).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Surface Chain Stitches:
Insert hook into first front loop of RND 2 – see photo;
yarn over hook; draw through loop; draw though loop on hook
Basic SL ST into each loop until end of spiral – DO NOT FASTEN OFF
Note: Do not SL ST too tightly – if in doubt use a hook size larger – if you crochet too tightly the spiral will make a bubble
CONTINUE AS FOLLOWS:
Note: because of the spiral’s SL ST’s round 6 will be done working into the back-loops only
RND 6: CH 3 (this counts as the 1st DC);
Work 1 DC into next 13 DC; work [3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next DC;
*Work 1 DC into next 14 DC; work [3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC] into next DC.
Repeat from two more times, SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 16 DC until 2 CH space;
work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next 20 DC until next 2 CH space; work [2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC] into 2 CH space.
Repeat from * two more times, work 1 DC into last 4 DC, SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
My Squares with my tension and yarn measure approx 6, 5 inch x 6, 5 inch
I have been a crochet designer for more than 10 years. I love to think outside the box and to try and do things a bit differently. I love to learn new techniques and to challenge myself. I firmly believe that crochet should fun and evoke joy and pleasure. Creating and designing is one of my life's passions.
“Crochet is an art and crocheters it’s artists. Each crafted item is unique and own to its crafter”
