Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light
Color – 4 colors – color change indicted in pattern
Hook: 4.00 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink
INSTRUCTIONS:
With C
FOUNDATION RING:
CH 4 (or if you crochet tight – CH 6); join with a SL ST into the first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 3 DC into ring; CH 1;
work [4 DC into ring; CH 1] x 3. Join with a SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join D into any 1 CH space
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [3 DC; CH 1; 4 DC] into same 1 CH space (corner made);
CH 1; *work [4 DC; CH 1; 4 DC] into next 1 CH space; CH 1.
Repeat from *2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join A into any 1 CH space that is NOT a corner 1 CH space (see photo)
RND 3: Work 1 SC into same 1 CH space; work 1 SC into each DC and into each 1 CH corner space.
SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join B into ANY 1 CH corner space of RND 2
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 1 CH; 3 DC] into same corner; CH 1; SKIP 4 SC; work [2 DC; 1 CH; 2 DC] into next SC; SKIP 4 SC; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 1 CH; 3 DC] into next corner (1 CH space of RND 2); CH 1; SKIP 4 SC; work [2 DC; 1 CH; 2 DC] into next SC; SKIP 4 SC; CH 1. Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join C into any 1 CH corner space
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same 1 CH space – first corner made. CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1; SKIP the next [2DC; 1 CH; 2DC] cluster; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 3 CH space; CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1; SKIP the next [2DC; 1 CH; 2DC] cluster; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join D into any 2 CH CORNER space.
RND 6:CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space – first corner made. Work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space ; work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work 1 DC into 1 CH space of RND 4 (see photo); work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space ; work 1 DC into next 3 DC].
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space – corner made. Work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space ; work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work 1 DC into 1 CH space of RND 4;
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join A into any 2 CH CORNER space.
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space – first corner made.
Work 1 DC into each DC until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space; work 1 DC into each DC until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times. Join with a SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join B into any 2 CH CORNER space.
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space – first corner made.
Work 1 DC into each DC until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space; work 1 DC into each DC until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times. Join with a SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH..
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join C into any 2 CH space.
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into 2 CH space – first corner made.[CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next DC] x 6; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH space; [CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next DC] x 6; CH 1.
Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 10: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST) work 1 SC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round – work [2 SC; 2 CH; 2 SC] into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
NOTE: the corners will seem pointy but will smooth out with the next round.
RND 11: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each SC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner
When blocked the Anemone Granny Lace Square should be approx 9 inches (23 cm).
