Lacy Flower Wheel Crochet Granny Square

Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.

You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
    Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Square – 9 x 9 inches (23 x 23 cm)

COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink

INSTRUCTIONS:

With D

CH 6; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 6 (counts as 1 DC and 3 CH); work [1 DC into ring; CH 3] seven times;
join with SL ST into 3rd CH of 6 CH.
(8 DC and 8 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join A into any 3 CH space.

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 3 DC into same 3 CH space;
*CH 2; work 4 DC into next 3 CH space.
Repeat from * 6 more times. CH 2; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
(8 x 4 DC clusters; 8 x 2 CH spaces)

Join B into any 2 CH space.

RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 5 DC into same 2 CH space;
*work 6 DC into next 2 CH space.
Repeat from * 6 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
(8 x 6 DC clusters)

Join C into the space in-between any 2 cluster groups.

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into same space;
CH 3; work 1 SC in between the 3rd and 4th DC of the next 6 DC cluster;
CH 3; work 1 SC into the space before the next 6 DC cluster;
CH 3; work 1 SC in between the 3rd and 4th DC of the next 6 DC cluster.
*CH 3; work {2 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into the space before the next 6 DC cluster;
CH 3; work 1 SC in between the 3rd and 4th DC of the next 6 DC cluster;
CH 3; work 1 SC into the space before the next 6 DC cluster;
CH 3; work 1 SC in between the 3rd and 4th DC of the next 6 DC cluster;
Repeat from * 2 more times; CH 3; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join D into any 3 CH corner space.

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into same 3 CH space;
[CH 3; work 1 DC into next 3 CH space] 4 times; CH 3.
*Work [2 DC; CH 3; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space;

*Work [3 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into next 3 CH space;
[CH 1; work 3 DC into next DC] 5 times; CH 1.
Repeat from * two more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join C into any 3 CH corner space.

RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into 3 CH space – first corner made.[CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 6; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 3 CH space; [CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 6; CH 1. Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join D into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space; work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space;
Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space.] x 3;
SL ST into 1st SC made

RND 10: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each DC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner
