Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light
Color – 4 colors – color change indicted in pattern

Hook: 4.00 mm

Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES:
CL (cluster): Work 3 DC together –
[yarn around hook; insert into ST; pull yarn thru; yarn around hook; pull thru 2 loops on hook] x 3;
yarn around hook and pull thru all 4 remaining loops on hook.

COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink

INSTRUCTIONS:

With B

CH 6; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 1; work 16 SC into ring; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join C into any SC.

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same SC; CH 3; SKIP next SC.
*Work 3 DC into next SC; CH 3; SKIP next SC.
Repeat from * all around.
(8 x 3 DC groups; 8 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 3: CH 3; work CL over next 3 DC (first DC is into the top of the 3rd CH of the 3 CH of RND 2);
CH 3; SL ST into next 3 CH space; CH 3;
*work CL over next 3 DC; CH 3; SL ST into next 3 CH space; CH 3.
Repeat from * all around. SL ST into first CH of first 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join D into any 3 CH space of RND 2 (see photo)

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into same 3 CH space; work 1 SC into top of next CL.
*Work 5 DC into NEXT 3 CH space; work 1 SC into top of  next CL.
Repeat from * all around.
(8 x 5 DC groups = 40 DC ; 8 x SC) = 48 STS
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join A into any 3rd DC (center) of a 5 DC group

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into SAME DC;
work 1 DC into next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
*Work 3 DC into next DC (center of next 5 DC group); work 1 DC into next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
Repeat from * all around. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
64 DC
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join B into the first DC of any 3 DC group.

RND 6: CH1; work 1 SC into same DC;
work 1 SC into next DC;
work 1 HDC into next DC;
work 1 DC into next DC;
work 1 TR into next DC;
work [1 TR; CH 3; 1 TR] into next DC;
work 1 TR into next DC;
work 1 DC into next DC;
work 1 HDC into next DC;
work 1 SC into next 9 DC.
*Work 1 HDC into next DC;
work 1 DC into next DC;
work 1 TR into next DC;
work [1 TR; CH 3; 1 TR] into next DC;
work 1 TR into next DC;

CH 1; SKIP 2 TR; work 3 DC into next DC; CH 1; SKIP next 3 STS; work 3 DC into next SC; CH 1;
SKIP next 3 SC; work 3 DC into next SC; CH 1; SKIP next 3 STS; work 3 DC into next DC; CH 1;
SKIP next 2 TR.

Join A into any 2 CH corner space.

Join B into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 10: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space; work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space;
Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space.] x 3;
SL ST into 1st SC made.

RND 11: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each SC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner

 When blocked the Lacy Flower Wheel Granny Square should be approx 9 inches (23 cm).

    Hi – I have fixed the typo in Round 7 – it should be 3 CH in each corner.
    The following round have 2 CH in each corner!

  2. Corner 1 has CH 3 turning the corner, but the subsequent corners have CH2 turning the corner. Shouldn’t they all be the same?

  4. You still have an error in RND 6. The first SC in the 7DC should be also 9DC. I love your patterns, I will send you a pic of the finish product with different colors.
