Concentration required.

Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light
Color – 4 colors – color change indicted in pattern

Hook: 4.00 mm

Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)

Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES:
4DCtog – work 4 DC stitches together in one stitch

Yarn over (YO) hook,
insert hook in stitch(st),
pull up a loop (lp), 3 lps on hook.
YO hook, pull thru 2 lps,
2 lps left on hook.
YO hook insert in next st, pull up a lp, 4 lps on hook.
YO, pull thru 2 lps, 3 lps left on hook.
YO, insert hook in next st, pull up a lp, 5 lps on hook.
YO, draw thru 2 lps, 4 lps left on hook.
YO hook, insert in next st, draw up a lp, 6 lps on hook.
YO, draw hook thru 2 lps, 5 lps left on hook.
YO draw yarn thru all 5 lps on hook.

COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink

INSTRUCTIONS:

With color D

CH 6; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring (12 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 2: *CH 3; work 4DCtog into NEXT ST; CH 3; work 1 SC into NEXT ST.
Repeat from * 5 more times; working LAST SC into SAME ST  as first 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color A into any SC

RND 3: CH 4 (counts as 1 DC and 1 CH space); work 1 DC into SAME SC; *CH 2; work 1 SC into top of 4 DC cluster; CH 2; work [1 DC; 1 CH; 1 DC] into next SC.
Repeat from * 4 more times; CH 2; work 1 SC into top of 4 DC cluster; CH 2; SL ST into 3rd of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color B into any SC

NOTE: this next part does need some concentration to complete – I have tried to keep it as simple as possible. The V-ST is the [1 DC; 1 CH; 1DC] worked in the previous round.
TIP: if the instructions have been printed out – take a piece of paper and use it to help you work each part – let the paper cover the instructions you still need to work and then move it down as you complete each section!

RND 4: CH 3 (counts a 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into SAME SC – first corner made;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT 2 CH and V-ST; work 3 DC into NEXT 2 CH;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT SC and 2 CH;
work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next V-ST – second corner made;
CH 1; SKIP 2 CH  and NEXT 1 SC;
work 3 DC into NEXT 2 CH space;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT V-ST and  2 CH;
work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into NEXT SC – third corner made;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT 2 CH AND V-ST;
work 3 DC into NEXT 2 CH;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT SC and 2 CH;
work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into NEXT V-ST – fourth corner made;
CH 1; SKIP 2 CH and NEXT SC;
work 3 DC into next 2 CH space;

Join color C into any 2 CH space

RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into SAME 2 CH space;
*[CH 1; SKIP NEXT 3 DC; work [1 DC; 1 CH; 1 DC] into NEXT 1 CH space] X 2;
CH 1; SKIP NEXT 3 DC; work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH corner space.
Repeat from * 2 more times;

Join color D into any 2 CH corner space

RND 6: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into SAME 2 CH space;

Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space.] x 3;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.

RND 11: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each DC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner

 When blocked the Flower V Granny Square should be approx 9 inches (23 cm).
