Fancy Clover Crochet Granny Square

Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.

You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
    Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)

COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink

INSTRUCTIONS:

With color B

CH 6; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: CH 1; work 16 SC into ring;
SL ST into FIRST SC worked.
(16 SC)

RND 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into SAME SC; work 1 SC into next;
*work [1 SC; CH 9; 1 SC] into next SC; work 1 SC into next 3 SC.
Repeat from * 3 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.
(4 x 9 CH spaces; 20 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color D into any center (3rd) SC of 5 SC group

RND 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into joining SC;
*SKIP next 2 SC; work 21 DC into 9 CH space; SKIP 2 SC; work 1 SC into next SC.
Repeat from * 3 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.
(21 DC into EACH 9 CH space; 4 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color D into CENTER (11th) DC of a 21 DC group

RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 HDC; 1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into DC; CH 1
SKIP 3 DC; work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into NEXT DC; CH 1;
work 3 TR into next SC; CH 1;
SKIP 6 DC; work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into NEXT DC; CH 1;
SKIP 3 DC.
