Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
Josef; Rainbow Coat (2 pieces) and 2 x sheep appliques
INSTRUCTIONS:
Joseph & His Rainbow Coat:
“JOSEPH’S FATHER LOVED HIM MORE THAN HIS 11 BROTHERS AND
GAVE HIM A BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW COAT. JOSEPH’S BOTHERS WERE HERDING
SHEEP WHEN JOSEPH JOINED THEM AND THEY SAW HIS COAT.
THEY BECAME JEALOUS AND WANTED TO BE RID OF HIM”
JOSEPH:
With beige/white/cream/tan yarn – Make a magic circle
Body: (Make 2)
Head
RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring, use a stitch marker to mark your last stitch
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC of previous round (12 SC)
RND 3: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next, Repeat from * until end (18 SC)
RND 4: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, Repeat from * until end (24 SC)
Body
ROW 5: Work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 6: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 7: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into SL ST of previous row, TURN
ROW 8: repeat row 7
Arms
ROW 9: CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, SL ST into SL ST of row 7.
Fasten off and weave in ends
ROW 10: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (24 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends
Body
ROW 11: Rejoin yarn into the 10th ST, work 1 SC into next 6 SC, TURN
ROW 12 – 17: CH 1, work 1 SC into each SC (6 SC), TURN
Leg
ROW 18: CH 1, work 1 SC into next 3 SC, TURN
ROW 19-22: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 23: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
Fasten off and weave in ends
Leg
ROW 1: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (3 SC)
ROW 2-5: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 6: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
SL ST all around applique.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

The Hair: join yarn into any loop starting at the side of the head;
crochet [3 SC/or 4 SC] into each loop across. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Embroider two eyes (optional) or glue on a pair of googly eyes. Embroider a mouth.
THE COAT:
Repeat instructions twice – left and right
With any color yarn – CH 16
NOTE: each row should be crocheted with a different color! Like the rainbow!
ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (15 SC);
fasten off, optional: leave tails long enough for ‘tassels’;
*NOTE: do not TURN – join new yarn at the start of the row;
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC until end (15 SC);
fasten off and weave in starting tail; optional: leave ending tail long enough for ‘tassels’;**
ROW 3-5: repeat from * to **

The Sleeves:
Join any yarn at the top of the left side piece and work as follows:
ROW 1: work 1 SC into 5 STS; TURN
ROW 2: work 2 SC into FIRST ST; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; TURN
ROW 3: work 1 SC into each SC across (6 SC);
Fasten off and weave in ends.
For the right side; join any yarn at the ‘bottom’ see photos;
ROW 1: work 1 SC into 5 STS; TURN
ROW 2: work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into LAST SC; TURN
ROW 3: work 1 SC into each SC across (6 SC);
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Creating the button loops:
Starting at the top edge of the left side; SL ST all around until the long edge:
SL ST in first ST; *CH 6 (button loop); SKIP 2 STS; SL ST into 2 STS.
Repeat from * 3 more times. SL ST into remaining STS;
fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
SL ST all around the right side; fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.


Add buttons to the right side – opposite each button loop.
The SHEEP:
Body:
With tan or beige yarn – Make a magic circle
NOTE: for each round work into the BACK-LOOPS
RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC (12 SC)
RND 3: Work 1 SC into next SC; work 2 SC into next SC. Repeat from * till end (18 SC)
RND 4: Work 1 SC into next 4 SC, work 1 HDC, 1 DC, 6 TR, 1 DC into next ST, SL ST into same ST.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.
Wool:
Into each loop starting at the with some white yarn – work 1 SC into loop; CH 3;
work 1 SC into NEXT loop; CH 3. Repeat until last loop of round 3;
fasten off and weave in ends.
With some grey yarn:
I SL ST’ed along around on the inside (the back);
then for the ear: CH 3; SL ST into same space;
tail: CH 4; work 2 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 2 SC into next 2 CH;
legs: CH 5; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into next 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Embroider an eye (optional) or glue on a googly eye. Embroider a mouth (optional).
