My Crochet Bible Stories Blanket/Playbook Part Two

SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)

WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
Tree applique; Adam & Eve appliques; movable snake; leaves and dress x2

INSTRUCTIONS:

Adam, Eve & The First Sin:

“THE FIRST MAN AND WOMAN, ADAM AND EVE, WAS ASKED BY GOD TO OBEY HIM
AND NOT EAT FROM THE TREE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GARDEN. THE SNAKE TOLD
THEM THEY CAN. THEY LISTENED TO THE WRONG ONE, ATE THE FRUIT,
AND SIN CAME INTO THEIR HEARTS.”

TREE:

Bark:

with dark brown yarn – CH 21

ROW 1; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each ST until end; TURN
ROW 2-3: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end; TURN
ROW 4: CH 2; wok 1 HDC into first 6 STS; work 1 SC into remaining STS until end; TURN
ROW 5: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until LAST 6 STS;  work 1 HDC into next 3 STS; work 1 DC into last 3 STS.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Tree Top:

with lime/ soft green yarn  – Make a magic circle/ring

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring (12 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
work into front-loops for the next 4 rounds
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each ST all around (24 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next ST;
*work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * UNTIL last 4 STS (36 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next 2 STS;
*work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * until end (48 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next 3 STS;
*work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 3 STS. Repeat from * until end (60 DC); SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH;
RND 6: CH 1; work 1 SC into next 5 STS; CH 4; SKIP 4 STS; continue to work 1 SC into each ST until approx opposite the SKIPPED 4 STS; CH 4; SKIP 4 STS; work 1 SC into remaining STS until end.

To make the ‘leaves’ – with right side facing towards you – insert hook into first ‘ exposed front loop of rnd below (rnd 5) – work random 2/3 stitches into each loop – for exp: [2 SC; 1 HDC]; [1 HDC; 1 DC; 1 SC]; [SL ST; 1 SC] and so on. Continue working in the round; working in a spiral towards the center.
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing

Fruit: (make 5 or more)

NOTE: leave a short tail – approx 3 inches at the start and at the end for attaching fruit to tree.

with red/pink yarn – CH 4
work 4 DC into 4th CH from hook; remove hook; insert into 4th CH of 4 CH; then insert into loop of LAST DC worked; yarn over pull thru both loops on hook – ‘popcorn’ made.
Fasten off.

How To Attach The Fruit To The Tree:

Position your fruit where you would like it on the FRONT of the tree top; then on the WRONG SIDE pull the two tails thru; tie a knot (make sure it is secure) and weave/ cut the ends. Repeat for remaining fruits.

THE SNAKE:

with dark red yarn – CH 30

Work 5 DC into 4th CH from hook; CH 3; SL ST into same CH; work 1 HDC into each CH until end; CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook; SL ST into the bottom of the last HDC worked.

Glue 10 mm googly eyes onto face and attach a small piece of ribbon for the mouth. Not too short! Small fingers should be able to PULL on it

TIP – if making for small (toddlers) rather embroider eyes or sew on small buttons securely.

 

ADAM & EVE:

With beige/white/cream/tan yarn – Make a magic circle

Body: (Make 2)

Head

RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring, use a stitch marker to mark your last stitch
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC of previous round (12 SC)
RND 3: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next, Repeat from * until end (18 SC)
RND 4: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, Repeat from * until end (24 SC)

Body

ROW 5: Work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 6: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 7: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into SL ST of previous row, TURN
ROW 8: repeat row 7

Arms

ROW 9: CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, SL ST into SL ST of row 7.

Fasten off and weave in ends

ROW 10: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (24 SC)

Fasten off and weave in ends

Body

ROW 11: Rejoin yarn into the 10th ST, work 1 SC into next 6 SC, TURN
ROW 12 – 17: CH 1, work 1 SC into each SC (6 SC), TURN

Leg

ROW 18: CH 1, work 1 SC into next 3 SC, TURN
ROW 19-22: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 23: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
Fasten off and weave in ends

Leg

ROW 1: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (3 SC)
ROW 2-5: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 6: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
SL ST all around applique.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

 

 

Embroider two eyes (optional) or glue on a pair of googly eyes. Embroider a mouth.

Creating The Hair:

Cut strands of yarn approx 6 inches for Eve and 3 inches for Adam. Using you hook pull the strands thru the loops on the head; knot the tails; trim to size when satisfied with amount of hair.

CLOTHING:

THE LEAVES: (make 3)

With dark/olive yarn – CH 7

Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook;
work 1 HDC into next 2 CH;
work 1 DC next 2 CH;
work 6 DC into last CH – continue working along the bottom of the chain (opposite the STS just worked);
work 1 DC into next 2 CH;
work 1 HDC into next 2 CH;
SL ST into last CH.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

THE DRESS: (make 2)

With any double knitting/light worsted yarn – CH 11

ROW 1: work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end; TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end; TURN
ROW 3: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each ST UNTIL LAST 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN
Repeat row 3 until there are only 4 STS left;
work 4 rows more – working 1 SC into each 4 STS;
SL ST all around dress.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

 

BUILDING THE PLAYBOOK:
I added a hooks & loops to Adam & Eve to be able to switch between the leave and dress.
