HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)

WHAT YOU WILL CROCHET:
Samson Applique; Robe; and the two Pillars

INSTRUCTIONS:

Samson The Strongest Man

“SAMSON WAS A STRONG MAN. GOD HAD GIVEN HIM AMAZING STRENGTH TO DEFEAT
THE PHILISTINES. SAMSON WAS SEDUCED BY A WOMAN WHO LEARNT HIS SECRET AND SHE CUT OFF HIS HAIR. HE LOST HIS STRENGTH AND WAS IMPRISONED. HUMBLED HE PRAYED TO GOD TO
RETURN HIS STRENGTH ONCE MORE TO BREAK THE PILLARS OF HIS PRISON.”

SAMSON:

With beige/white/cream/tan yarn – Make a magic circle

Body: (Make 2)

Head

RND 1: Work 6 SC into ring, use a stitch marker to mark your last stitch
RND 2: Work 2 SC into each SC of previous round (12 SC)
RND 3: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next, Repeat from * until end (18 SC)
RND 4: *Work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 2 STS, Repeat from * until end (24 SC)

Body

ROW 5: Work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 6: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into next ST, TURN
ROW 7: CH 1, SKIP SL ST, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, SL ST into SL ST of previous row, TURN
ROW 8: repeat row 7

Arms

ROW 9: CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, work 1 SC into next 4 STS, CH 11, work 1 SC into 2nd ST from hook, work 1 SC into next 10 CH, SL ST into SL ST of row 7.

Fasten off and weave in ends

ROW 10: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (24 SC)

Fasten off and weave in ends

Body

ROW 11: Rejoin yarn into the 10th ST, work 1 SC into next 6 SC, TURN
ROW 12 – 17: CH 1, work 1 SC into each SC (6 SC), TURN

Leg

ROW 18: CH 1, work 1 SC into next 3 SC, TURN
ROW 19-22: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 23: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
Fasten off and weave in ends

Leg

ROW 1: Rejoin yarn and work 1 SC into each ST across (3 SC)
ROW 2-5: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST (3 SC), TURN
ROW 6: CH 1 work 1 SC into next ST, work 2 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into last ST.
SL ST all around applique.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

The Hair: join yarn into any loop starting at the side of the head;
crochet [3 SC/or 4 SC] into each loop across. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Long Hair: CH 9; work 2/3 rows SC (8 SC);
cut approx 10 cm lengths of yarn and knot them thru each loop on the bottom
row. (Create tassels); then trim.
This piece is detachable. – Use hooks n loops or press buttons.

Embroider two eyes (optional) or glue on a pair of googly eyes. Embroider a mouth.

THE PILLARS:

With grey/stone/brick yarn – CH 27

ROW 1: work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into each CH until end (25 DC); TURN
ROW 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each until end (25 DC); TURN
ROW 3: repeat row 2
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing

THE ROBE: (make 1) – Note this is the same as the dress for Adam & Eve

With any double knitting/light worsted yarn – CH 11

ROW 1: work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end; TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST until end; TURN
ROW 3: SC2tog; work 1 SC into each ST UNTIL LAST 2 STS; SC2tog; TURN
Repeat row 3 until there are only 4 STS left;
work 4 rows more – working 1 SC into each 4 STS;
SL ST all around dress.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
