Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Color – 5 colors – color change indicted in pattern
Hook: 3.25 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

Special Stitches:
FPTR – front post treble crochet
Yarn over 2 times, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, (yarn over, pull thru 2 loops on your hook) 3 times.

FPDC – front post double crochet
Insert your hook into the front of your work, behind the indicated stitch, and then through your work such that your hook is now at the front of your work again. Pull through final 2 loops on your hook.

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Grapefruit – B;
CH 8; SL ST to form a ring;
RND 1: CH 3 (this counts as 1 DC); work 15 DC into ring (16 DC):
SL ST into 3rd CH of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Amazon – D;
Join into any DC
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 2: Work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into joining DC; CH 3;
work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next DC.
*Work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC] into next DC; CH 3;
work [1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next DC.
Repeat from * 6 more times. (8 ‘petals’);
SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Natural – A;
Join with a SC into ANY 3 CH SPACE (the ‘point’ of any petal)
RND 3: *CH 2; work 1 DC in-between next 2 SC; CH 2; work 1 SC into next 3 CH space.
Repeat from * 6 more times; CH 2; work 1 DC in-between next 2 SC;
CH 2; SL ST into joining SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Kiwi – E;
Join into with a 3 CH into ANY 2 CH space;
RND 4: work 2 DC into SAME 2 CH space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into NEXT 2 CH space; CH 1) x 15;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(48 DC; 16 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Butternut – C;
join with a SC into the FIRST DC of 3 DC group NEXT TO a petal point – see photo!
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 5: Work 1 SC into next 2 DC; CH 1; SKIP NEXT 1 CH space;
work 1 SC into next 3 DC; work 1 FPDC round next RND 3 SC (point).
*Work 1 SC into next 3 DC; CH 1; SKIP NEXT 1 CH space;
work 1 SC into next 3 DC; work 1 FPDC round next RND 3 SC (point).
Repeat from * 6 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.
(8 x FPDC; 48 SC; 8 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Grapefruit- B;
Join into with a SC into the FIRST SC after a 1 CH space – see photo
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 6: Work 1 SC into next 2 SC; work 1 SC into next FPDC;
work 1 SC into next 3 SC; work 1 FPTR around RND 3 DC.
*Work 1 SC into next 3 SC; work 1 SC into next FPDC;
work 1 SC into next 3 SC; work 1 FPTR around RND 3 DC.
Repeat from * 6 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Natural – A;
Join with into ANY FPTR
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into SAME FPTR;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT SC;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT FPTR;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT SC; CH 3.
*Work [3 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into NEXT FPTR;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT SC;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT FPTR;
CH 3; SKIP NEXT 3 SC; work 1 SC into NEXT SC; CH 3.

Join into ANY corner 3 CH
RND 8: CH 4 (this counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; CH 2; 3 TR] into SAME corner 2 CH space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; CH 1) x 4.
*Work [3 TR; CH 2; 3 TR] into next corner 2 CH space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; CH 1) x 4.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Butternut – C;
Join into any 2 CH corner space
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 3;
(work 3DC into next 1 CH space; CH 3) 5 times.
*Work [3 DC; 3 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 3;
(work 3DC into next 1 CH space; CH 3) 5 times.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Amazon – D;
Join yarn into any 2 CH corner space;
RND 10: CH 4 (this counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; CH 2; 3 TR] into corner space; CH 1;
work (3 TR into next 3 CH space; CH 1) 6 times.
*Work [3 TR; CH 2; 3 TR] into corner space; CH 1;
work (3 TR into next 3 CH space; CH 1) 6 times.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 4th of starting 4 CH.
NOTE: you can remove or add after the border round to get your required size – you can change the stitches to SC/HDC/DC or TR.
Just Remember – to STOP at the SAME round for each of your squares to ensure easy joining and CORRECT (same) stitch count.
BORDER RND: CH 3 (this counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each TR stitch AND 1 Ch space all around;
work [ 2 DC; 2 CH 2; 2 DC] into each CORNER space.
(35 DC per side = total stitch count 140 DC)
SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
