Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Color – 5 colors – color change indicted in pattern
Hook: 3.25 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

Special Stitches:
NOTE: this 2DCtog instructions applies to THIS pattern
2DCtog: work 2 double crochet stitches together OVER 2 CHAIN SPACES
- Step 1: Yarn over.
- Step 2: Insert your crochet hook into the SAME CHAIN SPACE as last worked DC.
- Step 3: Yarn over.
- Step 4: Pull the yarn through the stitch on your crochet hook. You should now have three stitches on your crochet hook.
- Step 5: Yarn over.
- Step 6: Pull the yarn through the first two stitch on your crochet hook. You should now have two stitches on your crochet hook.
- Step 7: Insert your crochet hook into the next CHAIN SPACE.
- Step 8: Yarn over.
- Step 9: Pull the yarn through the first stitch on your crochet hook. You should now have three stitches on your crochet hook.
- Step 10: Yarn over.
- Step 11: Pull the yarn through all three stitches on your crochet hook.

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Natural – A;
CH 6; SL ST to form a ring;
RND 1: CH 1; work 12 SC into ring (12 SC);
SL ST into first SC worked;
RND 2: work into back-loops – CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); CH 1;
(work 1 DC into next SC; CH 1) x 11;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 DC; 12 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Pebble – B;
join new color into any 1 CH space
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into NEXT CH SPACE; CH 3;
(work 2DCtog (see SPECIAL STITCHES); CH3) x 11 times.
SKIP starting 3 CH; SL ST into FIRST DC worked.
(12 x 3 CH spaces; you will have 11 2DCtog clusters PLUS the starting clusters = 12)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Skyfall – C;
join new color into any 3 CH space with a SC;
RND 4: (CH 5; work 1 SC into next 3 CH space) x 11 times;
CH 5; SL ST into first SC worked.
(12 x 5 CH spaces; 12 x SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Coaldust – D;
join new color into any 5 CH space;
RND 5: CH 3; work 4 DC into same spaces;
*CH 1; work (1 DC; 1 CH; 1 DC) – V-ST into next 5 CH space; CH 1; work 5 DC into next 5 CH space.
Repeat from * 5 times; CH 1; work V-ST into next 5 CH space; CH 1;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(6 x 5 DC groups; 6 x V-ST)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Seashore – E;
join new color into the BACK-LOOP of any 1st DC of a 5 DC group
NOTE: for this round work into BACK-LOOPS
RND 6: CH 1 (does NOT count as ST); work 1 HDC into JOINING DC;
work 1 HDC into next 4 DC; CH 1; {work 1 HDC into NEXT DC; work 1 TR into 3 CH space of RND 4;
work 1 HDC into NEXT DC} – this part is worked into the V-ST; CH 1.
*Work 1 HDC into next 5 DC; CH 1; work 1 HDC into NEXT DC; work 1 TR into 3 CH space of RND 4;
work 1 HDC into NEXT DC; CH 1.
Repeat from * until end. SL ST into first HDC worked.
(6 x TR; 42 HDC; 12 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Natural – A;
join new color into any 1 CH space
RND 7: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); *work [2 TR; 3 CH; 3 TR] into same chain space;
(CH 3; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 2; CH 3.
*Work [3 TR; 3 CH; 3 TR] into NEXT 1 CH space;
(CH 3; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space) x 2; CH 3.
Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave ends.
With Pebble – B;
join new color into any 3 CH corner space
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into next 3 TR
(work 1 DC into each next 3 CH; work 1 DC into next 3 DC) 2 times;
work 1 DC into each of next 3 CH; work 1 DC into next 3 TR.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into next 3 TR
(work 1 DC into each next 3 CH; work 1 DC into next 3 DC) 2 times;
work 1 DC into each of next 3 CH; work 1 DC into next 3 TR.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(25 DC on each side)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Skyfall – C;
join new color into any 2 CH corner space
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 9: Work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into each corner;
work 1 SC into each DC of previous round.
SL ST into first SC worked; (27 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Coaldust – D;
join new color into any 2 CH corner space
For this round work into back-loops only
RND 10: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [1 TR; 2 CH; 2 TR] into same space;
work 1 TR into each SC until next corner.
*Work [2 TR; 2 CH; 2 TR] into same space;
work 1 TR into each SC until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
SL ST into 4th of 4 CH; (31 TR)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With Natural – A;
Join yarn into any 2 CH corner space;
For this round work into back-loops only
NOTE: you can remove or add after the border round to get your required size – you can change the stitches to SC/HDC/DC or TR.
Just Remember – to STOP at the SAME round for each of your squares to ensure easy joining and CORRECT (same) stitch count.
BORDER RND: CH 3 (this counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner;
work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner; work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
(35 DC per side = total stitch count 140 DC)
SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
