INSTRUCTIONS:
PART FOUR:
There is no fixed color sequence – you can use colors randomly or in order, even solid color through out – completely YOUR CHOICE!
NOTE: for ROW 1 – work into BACK LOOPS ONLY!!
With first color yarn work up 65 SC on any side of the Front Piece – this counts as ROW 1; TURN
ROW 2: CH 2 (does not count as a ST); work 1 DC into first SC; work 1 DC into each SC across (65 DC); TURN
ROW 3: CH 1 (does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into first DC; work 1 SC into each DC across (65 SC); TURN
ROW 4: repeat row 2;
ROW 5: repeat row 3;
change color
ROW 6: repeat row 3:
ROW 7: repeat row 2;
ROW 8: repeat row 3:
ROW 9: repeat row 2;
ROW 10: repeat row 3;
Fasten off and weave in ends.
This section should fit neatly over the ‘gap’ of the back piece.
Assembly:
NOTE: the photo shows the back – BUT when working the two pieces together – the FRONT piece SHOULD be facing towards you!
Place both pieces together; and starting at the bottom right corners; work pieces together with SC (single crochet):
when you reach the ‘flap’ work SC all around the ‘flap piece’ then move down on the left side – working the two pieces together with SC;
join with a SL ST into first SC worked;
PomPom Border:
*CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; SKIP 2 SC; SL ST into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all along the side UNTIL you reach the ‘flap’ –
remember that you had to work into the BACK LOOPS ONLY when you worked up 65 SC – this is
where you will continue with your popcorn border – repeat from * to ** all along the the top;
then continue down the side and then the along the bottom.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Flap Border and Button Holes: – (this is of course optional)
NOTE: the BEST way for this to work is to place stitch markers into the SC opposite of where you would like your buttons to be!
Starting in the left side corner; work up SC along the ‘short side’;
then (CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; SKIP 2 SC; SL ST into next SC) twice;
Button Hole: CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; CH 2; SKIP 3 SC; SL ST into next SC;
then (CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; SKIP 2 SC; SL ST into next SC) 3 times;
Button Hole: CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; CH 2; SKIP 3 SC; SL ST into next SC;
then (CH 6; work 4DCtog into 4th CH from hook; SL ST into 4th CH; SKIP 2 SC; SL ST into next SC) 3 times;
continue working the pattern for the amount of buttons you have!
Ending with working up SC along the final short side of the ‘flap’;
sew your buttons into position.
I received these gorgeous buttons from SiouXie Designs (only available in South Africa)
