Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Color – random – I used all my leftovers from the previous squares
Hook: 3.25 mm
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

FPDC – front post double crochet
3DCtog – work 3 double crochet stitches together in same space

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Color
CH 6; SL ST to form a ring;
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring (12 DC);
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Join new color into any DC;
RND 2: work into back-loops – CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2DCtog; CH 1; 3DCtog] into same DC;
*CH 1; skip next DC; work [3DCtog; CH 1; 3DCtog] into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 4 more times. SL ST into top of first 2DCtog worked.
(12 clusters)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 1 CH space in-between 2 Clusters
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same space; CH 1; work 1 TR into SKIPPED RND DC (back-loop).
*CH 1; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space in-between 2 Clusters; CH 1; work 1 TR into SKIPPED RND DC (back-loop).**
Repeat from * to ** 4 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
(6 TR; 6 groups of 3DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 1 CH space before a TR;
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 FPDC around TR; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space;
CH 1; work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC.
*CH 1; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 FPDC around TR; work 1 DC into next 1 CH space;
CH 1; work 1 FPDC around each of next 3 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 4 more times. CH 1; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 1 CH space
RND 5: work into back-loops – CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same space;
*work 1 DC into next 3 STS; work 2 DC into next 1 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.

Join new color into any DC
RND 6: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; 3 CH; 3 TR]; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next DC; CH 3; SKIP next 4 DC; work 1 SC in-between DC; CH 3; SKIP next 4 DC; work 1 SC into next DC;
CH 3.

RND 7: CH 4 (this counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; CH 3; 3 TR] into SAME corner; CH 1;
(work 3 TR into NEXT 3 CH space; CH 1) 4 times.
*Work [3 TR; CH 3; 3 TR] into SAME corner; CH 1;
(work 3 TR into NEXT 3 CH space; CH 1) 4 times.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 2 CH corner space
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) 5 times.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same corner space; CH 1;
(work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) 5 times.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join new color into any 2 CH corner space;
RND 9: work into back-loops – CH 4 (this counts as 1 TR); work [1 TR; CH 2; 2 TR] into SAME corner;
work 1 TR into each 1 CH space and each DC across.
*Work [2 TR; CH 2; 2 TR] into next corner; work 1 TR into each 1 CH space and each DC across.
Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
For this round work into back-loops only
NOTE: you can remove or add after the border round to get your required size – you can change the stitches to SC/HDC/DC or TR.
Just Remember – to STOP at the SAME round for each of your squares to ensure easy joining and CORRECT (same) stitch count.
BORDER RND: CH 3 (this counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner;
work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner; work 1 DC into each TR until next corner.
Repeat from * 2 more times.
(35 DC per side = total stitch count 140 DC)
SL ST into 3rd of starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
