Hooks & Notions:
Hook 3.2 5mm
Yarn needle
Optional – Ribbon approx 20/30 cm or length required

Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.

Size: Gift Bag – approx Bottom 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter and 10 cm (4 inches) in length;
Cozy – approx Bottom 8 cm (3 inches) in diameter and 6 cm (2, 5 inches) in length

Abbreviations:

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

INSTRUCTIONS:

Mini Santa Gift Bag:

With yarn CH 6 OR make a magic circle

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (12 DC);
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each ST all around;
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (24 DC);
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next ST.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST.** Repeat from * to ** all around;
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (36 DC);
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next 2 STS
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 2 STS.** Repeat from * to ** all around;
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (48 DC).

For next round work into back-loops only;

RND 5: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST all around (48 SC);

RND 6: CH 1; work 1 DC into same ST;
*SKIP next SC; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SKIP next SC; SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 7: CH 1; work 1 DC into same ST;
*SKIP next SC; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into first DC worked.

Repeat RND 7 for length required – I repeated 8 more times.

Ribbon Round: CH 3 (counts as 1 HDC and 1 CH);
*SKIP next SC; work 1 HDC into next DC; CH 1.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into 2nd of 3 CH.

Last Round: *CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook (Picot); SL ST into next 1 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST below first Picot made.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Jar or Candle Cozy:

NOTE: depending on what you would like to do – you can make the bottom part – according to your size jar or candle or you can skip this part and just make the cozy that goes around the jar of candle.

Bottom & Cozy:

With yarn CH 6 OR make a magic circle

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (12 DC);
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each ST all around;
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (24 DC);
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next ST.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST.** Repeat from * to ** all around;
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH (36 DC);
you can continue to increase evenly with 12 DC for each round – if you would like to make the bottom larger.

For next round work into back-loops only;

RND 4: CH 1; work 1 SC into each ST all around (36 SC);

RND 5: CH 1; work 1 DC into same ST;
*SKIP next SC; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SKIP next SC; SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 6: CH 1; work 1 DC into same ST;
*SKIP next SC; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into first DC worked.

Repeat RND 6 for length required – I repeated 4 more times.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

If you would just like to make a Cozy with this pattern stitch:

Make a Foundation CH of Multiple by 2 plus 1;

ROW 1: Work 1 DC into 3 CH from hook; *SKIP next CH; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next CH.**
Repeat from * to ** until last CH work 1 SC into last CH; TURN
ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 DC into first SC; *SKIP next SC; work [1 SC; 1 DC] into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** end; work 1 SC into turning CH.

Repeat ROW 2 for length required – then sew your shorts together to fit around your jar or candle!

STAR:

Make a magic ring;

RND 1: work 10 SC into ring;
RND 2: SL ST into first SC worked; CH 4; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook;
work 1 HDC into next CH; work 1 DC into last CH.
*SL ST into next 2 SC; CH 4; work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook;
work 1 HDC into next CH; work 1 DC into last CH.**
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew each star onto cozy!
