Tension is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect – same type of yarn and hook throughout the project is recommended.
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

Colors & Yarn:
I made some same color spectrum inspired color palettes to help you choose your colors for this project. I went with a family of blues for my bag.




My yarn – Moya DK 100% cotton
- Cobalt
- Aquamarine
- Azure
- Natural
Your choice of yarn and colors will completely depend on who you make if for and of course if it is a gift. Or a treat for yourself (wouldn’t THAT be nice!!)
AMOUNT of yarn will depend on how big you are going to make your bag!
My FINAL Bag size: approx 12 inches (31 cm) in width and 15 inches (38 cm) in length.
INSTRUCTIONS:
My hook: 4,00 mm (G)
Granny Square – Make 9

With hook and yarn – CH 4, SL ST into first CH to form a ring OR make a magic circle.
RND 1: CH 2 – does not count as ST, [work 3 DC into ring; CH 3] x 4; SL ST into first DC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Change color
RND 2: CH4 (counts a tr), work [2 TR, CH 3, 3 TR] into 3 CH space. *CH1, work [3 TR, CH 3, 3 TR] into next 3 CH space**. Repeat from *to** 2 times more. SL ST into 4th of 4 CH
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Change color
RND 3: CH3 (counts as DC), work [2 DC, CH 3, 3 DC] into 3 CH space. *CH1, work 3 DC into 1CH space, CH1, work [3DC, CH 3, 3DC] into 3CH space**. Repeat from *to** 2 times more. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Change color
Optional: work this round into back loops only
RND 4: CH 1; work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into 3 CH space; (work 1 SC into next 3 DC; work 1 SC into next 1 CH space) x 2; work 1 SC into next 3 DC.
*Work [1 SC; CH 2; 1 SC] into 3 CH space; (work 1 SC into next 3 DC; work 1 SC into next 1 CH space) x 2; work 1 SC into next 3 DC. **
Repeat from *to** 2 times more. SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.


Back Panel:
NOTES:
- Do NOT turn after each row;
- Change color after each row;
- work into back loops – work into both loops for HDC stitches (the middle and back loop)

CH 44
ROW 1: work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into each CH until end (43 SC).
Fasten off.
ROW 2: CH 2 (or do Standing HDC); work 1 HDC into each SC (43 HDC).
Fasten off.
ROW 3: CH 3 (or do Standing DC); work 1 DC into each HDC (43 DC).
Fasten off.
ROW 4: CH 1 (or do Standing SC); work 1 SC into each DC (43 SC).
Fasten off.
Repeat Rows 2, 3 and 4 until piece measures approx 14/15 inches (36/38 cm)
Weave in ends.




Sew all 9 squares together to form one big square.
I used the slip method but you can use any method you are comfortable with.



Place front and back panels facing WRONG side together;
and starting on the left side – single crochet (SC) the two pieces together.
With Front panel facing towards you –
Working down the left side (work up 43 SC), across the bottom (43 SC), back up the right side (work up 43 SC).
Work single crochet (SC) along the top edge separate for front and back (43 plus 43 = 86 SC) – without working the pieces together – leaving an opening.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Rejoin yarn at the first SC on the front and work two rounds SC into back-loops only (optional); cut yarn and mark last ST with a Stitch Marker.



Top Trim:
Join new yarn into marked ST
RND 2-3: Work 1 SC into each SC – back-loops optional; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
change color
RND 4: CH 2 (this does NOT count as a stitch); work 1 DC into first SC; *SKIP next CH; CH 1; work 1 DC into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into first DC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 5: Work 1 SC into first DC; *work 1 SC into next 1 CH space; work 1 SC into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST into first SC worked.
RND 6: Work 1 SC into each SC all around; SL ST into first SC worked;
RND 7: Work 1 SC into first SC; *CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook (picot); work 1 SC into next 2 SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around. SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.



You can also add a chain loop to hang up the bag – or even handles!
