– for this project to be joined with the least effort be sure to use the SAME hook throughout! - I use US Crochet stitch terminology.

What you will crochet:
16 x 3 inch (8 cm) squares:
- 4 x Rainbow Swirl Mini Square
- 4 x Mini Swirly Square
- 4 x Polka Dot Mini Square
- 4 x Mini Square It Square
Rounds 1 and 2 of a 12 inch (30 cm) – only 1
INSTRUCTIONS:
Rainbow Swirl Mini Square: Make 4
Takes approx to 20/30 minutes to make one square – depending on skill and how quickly you crochet.
Note: To make the color sequence easier to understand with the photo tutorials – I am indicating color change with a specific color.
The colors I used in the tutorial: – colors is brackets () I used for the 3rd and 4th squares
- A – natural (B – sepia)
- B – sherbet (E – kiwi)
- C – turquoise (I – watermelon)
- D – pomgranate (C – marigold)
With A – Make a magic circle / or CH 6; SL ST to form a circle
RND 1: CH 1; *work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 2 DC] into circle – do NOT cut yarn; pull up long loop**.
Rep from *to** with color B;
rep from *to** with color C;
rep from *to** with color D.
RND 2: Pick up color A loop; *work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST – do NOT cut yarn; pull up long loop**.
Pick up color B loop rep from *to**;
pick up color C loop rep from *to**;
pick up color D loop rep from *to*.
TIP: The trick to this square is to NOT get your yarn knotted – I placed my balls in each corner on a tray – and then with each color change turned the tray!
RND 3: Pick up color A loop; *CH 2; work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 5 STS – do NOT cut yarn; pull up long loop**.
Pick up color B loop rep from *to**;
pick up color C loop rep from *to**;
pick up color D loop rep from *to*.
RND 4: Pick up color A loop; *work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next 2 STS; work 1 HDC into next 2 STS; work 1 SC into next 2 STS; SL ST into next ST – fasten off**.
Pick up color B loop rep from *to**;
pick up color C loop rep from *to**;
pick up color D loop rep from *to*.
Weave in ends.
If you count the STITCHES from corner to corner (2 CH space to 2 CH space) you SHOULD have 11 STS.
The square should approx measure 3 inches (8 cm)
Mini Swirly Square: Make 4
Colors I used:
- square 1 – A natural and J pomegranate
- square 2 – G turquoise and A natural
- square 3 – E kiwi and C marigold
- square 4 – I watermelon and E kiwi
Takes approx to 15/25 minutes to make one square – depending on skill and how quickly you crochet.
NOTE: This square is made in continuous rounds – you will need a Stitch Marker to mark your stitches.
With color – Make a magic circle / or CH 6; SL ST to form a circle
RND 1: CH 1; work [2 SC; 2 HDC; 2 DC] into ring – do NOT join – use a Stitch Marker to indicate round end. (6 STS)
RND 2: working into BACK-LOOPS (important) – work 2 DC into each of next 6 STS – do NOT join – use a Stitch Marker to indicate round end. (12 STS)
RND 3: work (2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST) 4 times; leaving the LAST 4 STS un-worked – use a Stitch Marker to indicate round end. ( 12 STS – not counting un-worked sts)
RND 4: work [1 DC; 2 CH; 1 DC] into first un-worked ST; work 1 HDC into next ST; work 1 SC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next ST.
*Work [1 DC; 2 CH; 1 DC] into NEXT ST; work 1 HDC into next ST; work 1 SC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next ST.**
Repeat from *to** 2 more times; SL ST into first DC worked.
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); *work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next ST; work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST.**
Repeat from *to** 3 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
The center WILL bobble/bucket!!
With next color – join with a SC into first FRONT-LOOP at the center of the square; work 1 SC into SAME loop;
work 2 SC into each loop until just before Round 5. Fasten off and weave in ends.
If you count the STITCHES from corner to corner (2 CH space to 2 CH space) you SHOULD have 11 STS.
The square should approx measure 3 inches (8 cm)
Polka Dot Mini Square: Make 4
Colors I used:
- square 1 – H azure; I watermelon; A natural and E kiwi
- square 2 – J pomegranate; D sherbet; H azure and G turquoise
- square 3 – B sepia; A natural; G turquoise and C marigold
- square 4 – C marigold; F mint; B sepia and J pomegranate
Takes approx to 10/15 minutes to make one square – depending on skill and how quickly you crochet.
With color – Make a magic circle / or CH 6; SL ST to form a circle
RND 1: CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH/or top of STANDING DC.
(12 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.
join new color into ANY DC
RND 2: CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 2 DC into each DC around; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH/or top of STANDING DC.
(24 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.
join new color into ANY DC
RND 3: CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME DC; CH 1; SKIP next 2 DC;
work 3 DC into next DC; CH 1; SKIP next 2 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into SAME DC; CH 1; SKIP next 2 DC; work 3 DC into next DC; CH 1; SKIP next 2 DC.**
Repeat from *to** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH/or top of STANDING DC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 4: *work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into 2 CH space; work 1 SC into next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next 1 CH space; work 1 SC into next 3 DC; work 1 SC into next 1 CH space; work 1 SC into next 2 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.

- square 4 – F mint; C marigold; A natural and B sepia
Takes approx to 10/15 minutes to make one square – depending on skill and how quickly you crochet.
With color – Make a magic circle / or CH 6; SL ST to form a circle
RND 1: CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work 11 DC into ring; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH/or top of STANDING DC.
(12 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

RND 2: CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work [1 TR; 1 DC] into same DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.

(16 DC; 4 TR) Fasten off and weave in ends.

NOTE: work 1 DC IN-BETWEEN 2 DC – this means working into the SPACE of the DC ST you just made a ST in and the next DC you are going to work in – we are creating an extra ST for the next round.
RND 3 : CH 3/or do the STANDING DC; work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same TR; work 1 DC into next 2 DC;
work 1 DC IN-BETWEEN 2 DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
*Work [ 2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next TR; work 1 DC into next 2 DC;
work 1 DC IN-BETWEEN 2 DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
Repeat from *to** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH/or top of STANDING DC.
(9 DC on each side) Fasten off and weave in ends.
join new color into any 2 CH corner space
RND 4: *work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into 2 CH corner space; work 1 SC into each of next 9 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times. SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
If you count the STITCHES from corner to corner (2 CH space to 2 CH space) you SHOULD have 11 STS.
The square should approx measure 3 inches (8 cm)
Rounds 1 and 2 of a 12 inch (30 cm):
With color A (natural) – Make a magic circle / or CH 6; SL ST to form a circle
RND 1: CH 3; work 2TRtog into ring; CH 3; (work 3TRtog; CH 3) 8 times into ring; SL ST into top of first Cluster.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color D (sherbet)- join into any 3 CH space
RND 2: CH 3; work 2TRtog into space; work [CH 3; 3TRog] into SAME space; CH 3.
*Work [3TRtog; 3 CH; 3TRtog] into next 3 CH space; CH 3.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times. Fasten off and weave in ends.
OPTIONAL SURFACE CROCHET:
Note – this does not influence further rows if you opt NOT to do the surface crochet.
With color C (marigold) – join with a SC around any RND 1 Cluster; CH 5;
(work SC around next Cluster; CH 5) 7 times; SL ST into first SC worked.
Work 2 SC into next 5 CH space; work 1 SC into 3 CH space between Clusters worked in a 3 CH space of RND 1;
Note – in other words this is the 3 CH space that was worked like this [3TRtog; 3 CH; 3TRtog]
work 2 SC into SAME 5 CH space.
*Work 2 SC into next 5 CH space; work 1 SC into 3 CH space between Clusters worked in a 3 CH space of RND 1;
work 2 SC into SAME 5 CH space.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times.
