Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
Concentration required.
Yarn: Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light – I used cotton yarn – check the main introduction page!
Hook: 4,00 mm (G)
Size: 23 cm x 23 cm (approx. 9 inches)
Notes:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
TR – treble crochet
BLP – back loop

SPECIAL STITCHES:
Clusters – 3DCtog – 3 double crochet together – into same space or stitch..
Special Stitch – Cross Stitch – work 1 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into SKIPPED ST
Colors: – the colors in () are the old colors for those continuing in the first color sequence
- Natural – color A (B)
- Seafoam – color B (E/A)
- Pomegranate – color C (D)
- Fern – color D (F/G)
- Taupe – color E (C)

INSTRUCTIONS:
With Color A
CH 8; SL ST into first CH to form a ring
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2DCtog; CH 2.
*Work Cluster; CH 2.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times.
SL ST into top of 2DCtog.
(8 x Clusters)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color C; join into any 2 CH space
NOTE: the photo shows CH 1 spaces – but I have changed the pattern to CH 2 for tension issues.
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same space; CH 2; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 2.
*Work 3 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(4 x 3 DC shells; 4 DC; 8 x 2 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color E; join into single DC
RND 3: CH 6 (counts as 1 DC and CH 3 space); work FPDC around each of next 3 DC; CH 3.
*Work 1 DC into next DC; CH 3; work FPDC around each of next 3 DC; CH 3.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(12 FPDC; 4 DC; 8 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color D; join into any 3 CH space BEFORE a FPDC
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same space; work FPDC around each of next 3 FPDC;
work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; CH 2; SKIP next DC.
*Work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; work FPDC around each of next 3 FPDC; work 3 DC into next 3 CH space; CH 2; SKIP next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times.
(4 x 2 CH spaces; 12 FPDC; 24 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color C; join into any 1st DC of a 3 DC group BEFORE a FPDC
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 2 DC; work FPDC around next 3 FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work FPTR around SKIPPED RND 4 DC; work 1 DC into SAME 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work FPDC around next 3 FPDC; work 1 DC into each of next 3 DC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work FPTR around SKIPPED RND 4 DC; work 1 DC into SAME 2 CH space.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color A; join into any FPTR
RND 6: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work [2 TR; 2 CH; 3 TR] into same FPTR; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC;
work 1 DC into next DC; CH 4; SKIP next DC and FPDC; work FPDC around next FPDC; CH 4; SKIP next FPDC and DC; work 1 DC into next DC; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC.
*Work [3 TR; 2 CH; 3 TR] into next FPTR; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next DC; CH 4; SKIP next DC and FPDC; work FPDC around next FPDC; CH 4; SKIP next FPDC and DC; work 1 DC into next DC; CH 2; SKIP next 2 DC.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 2 TR; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into next 3 TR; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next FPDC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next 3 TR; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into next 3 TR; work 2 DC into next 2 CH space;
work 1 DC into next DC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;
work 1 FPDC around next FPDC; work 4 DC into next 4 CH space;

With color E; join into any 2 CH corner space
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
work Cross Stitch 6 times; work FPDC around next FPDC; work Cross Stitch 6 times.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
work Cross Stitch 6 times; work FPDC around next FPDC; work Cross Stitch 6 times.**
Repeat from * to** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(29 STS per side – 12 x Cross Stitch; 1 FPDC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
NOTE: the reason I rejoined the yarn into the 2 CH corner space is because of the Cross Stitch – it did not look good otherwise.
You CAN SL ST into the 2 DC and then start in the corner.
With color E; join into any 2 CH corner space
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
work Cross Stitch 7 times; work FPDC around next FPDC; work Cross Stitch 7 times.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space;
work Cross Stitch 7 times; work FPDC around next FPDC; work Cross Stitch 7 times.**
Repeat from * to** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(34 STS per side – 14 x Cross Stitch; 1 FPDC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With color B; join into any corner 2 CH space
RND 10: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space;
work 1 DC into each DC until next corner space.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same space; work 1 DC into each DC until next corner space.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(37 DC on each side – 148 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
