With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and ballet pink for girl/baby blue for boy yarn;

Head:

Notes: this section is worked in continuous round – using a stitch marker to mark the start of each round is advised.

CH 5

RND 1: Work 2 SC into 2nd chain from hook; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; work 4 SC into last chain; continue along the bottom of foundation chain; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; work 2 SC into same chain as first 2 SC. (12 SC)

RND 2: Work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into next SC;
work 1 SC into next SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next SC. (16 SC)

RND 3: Work 1 SC into next SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 2 SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next SC. (20 SC)

RND 4: Work 1 SC into each SC all around. (20 SC)

Note: before working last SC in the next round – join in new yarn (natural) and cut off previous yarn.

RND 12: Work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next ST; work 1 SC into next 7 SC;
work [1 SC; 1 HDC; 1 DC; 1 HDC; 1 SC] into next SC; SL ST into SAME SC – leaving last 3 SC unworked. Fasten off and leave a long tailoptional if you are not using beads for eyes.

Horn:

With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and ballet pink for girl/baby blue for boy yarn;

SL ST into first unworked SC of previous round; CH 5; SL ST into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into next 2 CH; work 1 HDC into last CH; skip next unworked SC; SL S into last unworked SC.
Fasten offto secure tie both starting and ending tails behind the horn and push tails into head.

Finishing Head:

Embroider eyes and other facial details required.
I used my natural yarn tail to sew beads into place for the eyes; then used that same tail to sew the top opening of the head closed. Optional – stuff the head with a little bit of stuffing.

Body:

With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and natural yarn;

CH 7

ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 SC into next 5 CH (6 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 2: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (6 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 3: Work 2 SC into first SC; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work 2 SC into last SC (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 4-5: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 6: Work 2 SC into first SC; work 1 SC into next 6 SC; work 2 SC into last SC (10 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 7-9: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (10 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 10: Work SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 6 SC; work SC2tog (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 11-14: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 15: Work 2 SC into first SC; work 1 SC into next 6 SC; work 2 SC into last SC (10 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 16-18: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (10 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 19: Work SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 6 SC; work SC2tog (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 20-21: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (8 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 22: Work SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 4 SC; work SC2tog (6 SC); CH 1; TURN

ROW 23-24: Work 1 SC into each SC until end (6 SC); CH 1; TURN
Do not fasten off.

Fold body in half and SL ST together down the first side; remove hook; cut yarn and leave a LONG tail; then pull yarn thru half way along the bottom; then with needle wrap several times in the center to create ‘legs’ ; then pull yarn thru to open side; SL ST together up the last side.
Fasten offdo not cut remaining yarn yet!

Optional – stuff the legs with a little bit of stuffing.

Arms: make 2

With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and natural yarn;

Make a magic ring;
RND 1: work 6 SC into ring;
RND 2-3: work 1 SC into each SC. (6 SC)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew arms to sides of body:

Position arms at the edges of ROWS 3 and 4 from top of body; sew into place.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew head to top of body:

Position head onto the front of the body; using the loops that are exposed from RND 6 of the head – sew head into position while sewing the body opening closed too.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Hair:

With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and for boy – Apple; Raspberry; Sunshine/for girl – Apple; Blue Bell; Raspberry yarn

At the top of the back of the head uses the stitches to work up your hair/mane for the unicorn.

*SL ST into stitch; CH 21; work 3 SC into each CH until end; SL ST into same stitch.**
Repeat from * to ** for each color.
Fasten offto secure tie both starting and ending tails underneath the hair and weave tails into head.

Tail:

With 3, 25 mm (D) Hook and ballet pink for girl/baby blue for boy yarn;

At the back of the body just above the legs; SL ST into stitch; CH 11; work 3 SC into each CH until end; SL ST into same stitch.
Fasten offto secure tie both starting and ending tails underneath the tail and weave tails into body.
