Cute Crochet Bunny Basket – Free Crochet Pattern

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Vinnis Colours Nikkim (cotton yarn) – approx 60 yards (50 meters) for basket and approx 10 yards for edging (8 meters); Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light.
  • Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – I used Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

Gauge:
With yarn listed and 3, 50 mm (E) hook final basket should measure 2 inches in length and 5 inches in diameter (5 x 13 cm).
However gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect

Finished Size:
Basket – 2 inches in length and 5 inches in diameter (5 x 13 cm).

Pattern Notes:
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.

Instructions:

Basket:

With Natural – make a magic ring;

Note: CH 2 at the start of each round does NOT count as a ST.

RND 1: CH 2; work 12 DC into ring; SL ST into first DC worked;

RND 2: CH 2; work 2 DC into each DC all around (24 DC); SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 3: CH 2; (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next DC) all around (36 DC); SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 4: CH 2; (work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC) all around (48 DC); SL ST into first DC worked.

RND 5: CH 2; (work 2 HDC into next DC; work 1 HDC into next 3 DC) all around (60 HDC); SL ST into first HDC worked.

Note: work next 4 rounds into the 3rd loop of each HDC (the back-back loop)

RND 6-8: CH 2; work 1 HDC into each HDC all around (60 HDC); SL ST into first HDC worked.

RND 9: CH 1; work 1 SC into each HDC all around (60 SC); SL ST into first SC worked.

RND 10-16: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC all around (60 SC); SL ST into first SC worked.

Crab Stitch all around for edging.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Handle:

With Natural – CH 36

ROW 1: work 1 HDC into 2nd CH from hook; work 1 HDC into each CH until end (35 HDC).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

With contrasting colour – starting on end with no sewing tail; SL ST into each HDC all around (top and bottom).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

You should now have a sewing tail on each end of handle to sew to bunny basket!
Idea: you cute buttons; ribbons or appliques to attach your handle!

Ears: make 2

With Natural – CH 13

Work 1 SC into 2nd CH form hook, work 1 SC into next 2 CH, work 1 HDC into next 3 CH, work 1 DC into next 3 CH, work 1 TR into next 2 CH, work 6 TR into last CH – continue working along the other side – work 1 TR into next 2 CH, work 1 DC into next 3 CH, work 1 HDC into next 3 CH, work 1 SC into next 3 CH.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Eyes: make 2

With Natural – make a magic ring;

RND 1: work 6 SC into ring; SL ST into first SC
RND 2: CH 1; work 2 SC into each SC all around (12 SC); SL ST into first SC.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

With a little bit of black yarn embroider (sew) pupils onto each eyes.
Idea: Use buttons for eyes or stick on eyes!

Sew eyes and ears into position – there is no right way – place them where you would like them!
Use my photo as a guide!

With yarn embroider or sew a nose!
Idea: Use a button!
