Autumn Velvet Shawl Section Four – Free Crochet Along

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Vinnis Colours Serina (bamboo yarn) – approx 1210 yards (110 meters) 10 x 50 g balls (colors listed in Pattern Notes); Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – I used Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)

Special Stitches will be give with each section when required.

Gauge:
However gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!

Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your shawl will be a different size!

Finished Size:
Approx 15 1/5 inches (40 cm) in width; 60 1/5 inches (155 cm) in length

Pattern Notes:
Remember you can use any colors you like! This is also a super project for using leftover yarns!
Please note the stitch patterns were specially matched and modified to work for this shawl.

My colors:

A – Taupe (3 x 50 g)
B – Nomvula’s Tangerine (1 x 50 g)
C – Dark Chocolate (3 x 50 g)
D – Crimson (2 x 50 g)
E – Cameo Green (1 x 50 g)

Instructions:

NB: take NOTE on HOW you end a section – you will either end with a WS (wrong side) or RS (right side) row.
Read the instructions!

Section 4:

With A – join into first DC.

WS – ROW 28: CH 1, work 1 SC into first DC; CH 2; (work 1 SC into next 2 CH space; CH 4) x 19 times; work 1 SC into next 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 SC into last DC; TURN.

ROW 29-32: CH 1; work 1 SC into first SC; CH 2; (work 1 SC into next SC; CH 4) x 19 times; work 1 SC into next SC; CH 2; work 1 SC into last SC, TURN.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note you will end with a Wrong Side Row.

With B – join into first SC.

RS – ROW 33: CH 1; work 1 SC into first SC; SKIP next 2 CH space and next SC; (work 7 DC into next 4 CH space; work 1 SC into next 4 CH space) x 9 times; work 7 DC into next 4 CH space; work 1 SC into last SC; TURN

ROW 34: CH 6 (counts as 1 DC and 3 CH space); (work 1 SC into the 4th DC; CH 3; work 1 DC into next SC; CH 3) x 9 times; work 1 SC into the 4th  DC; CH 3; work 1 DC into next SC; TURN

ROW 35: CH 1; work 1 SC into first DC; (work 7 DC into next SC; work 1 SC into next DC) x 9 times; work 7 DC into next SC; work 1 SC into last DC; TURN

ROW 36; 38; 40; 42 and 44: Repeat row 34.

Row 37; 39; 41; and 43: Repeat row 35.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note you will end with a Wrong Side Row.
