Granny Flower Crochet Blanket

This Granny Flower Crochet Blanket is made up by two different squares arranged in rows.
The flower motif square brings a 3d elegance.
This is an Updated version of my originally released Granny Flower Blanket in 2014.

Granny Flower Crochet Blanket
Supplies/Materials:
- Yarn –Vinnis Colours Serina (bamboo yarn) approx 2904 yards (2664 meters) 24 x 50 g balls
Weight – Sport (12 wpi) - Hook – 3, 50 mm (E) – Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Colors:
A – Crimson 50 g x 2
B – Nomvula’s Tangerine 50 g x 2
C – Mustard 50 g x 2
D – Baby Yellow 50 g x 2
E – Army 50 g x 8
F – Sunshine 50 g x 2
G – Golden 50 g x 2
H – Chocolate 50 g x 2
I – Dark Chocolate 50 g x 2
Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
Gauge:
Not necessary for this project to be perfect – however same yarn recommended throughout.
Finished Size:
Approx. 32 inch (81 cm) in width,
approx. 52 inch (131 cm) in length.

Instructions:
Solid Square:
Make 10 in each color
= 40 squares in total.
With Baby Yellow/Mustard/Nomvula’s Tangerine/Crimson:
Make a Magic Ring/ or CH 6, SL ST to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into ring; CH 1; *work 3 DC into ring; CH 1. ** Repeat from *to** 4 more times.
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
RND 2: SL ST into next 2 DC; SL ST into next 1 CH space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; CH 1; 3 DC] into same space; CH 1. *Work [3 DC; CH 1; 3 DC] into next 1 CH space; CH 1. Repeat from * 4 more times.
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
RND 3: SL ST into next 2 DC; SL ST into next 1 CH space; CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into same space; CH 1. *Work 3 DC; CH 1 into next CH space. Repeat from * until end.
(12 DC clusters).
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With E (Army):
Join into any 1 CH space.
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into same space (corner made); CH 1; (work 3 SC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) twice.
*Work [3 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into next 1 CH space (corner made); CH 1; (work 3 SC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) twice. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH;
SL ST into next 2 DC; SL ST into next 3 CH space.
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into corner space; CH 1; (work 3 DC into next 1 CH space; CH 1) 3 times.

Flower Square:
Make 8 in each color
= 32 squares in total.
With Baby Yellow/Mustard/Nomvula’s Tangerine/Crimson:
Make a Magic Ring/ or CH 6, SL ST to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 11 DC into ring.

SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
RND 2: work into back-loops;
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 2 DC into each of next 11 DC.
(24 DC)
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
RND 3: work into back-loops;
CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into same ST; work 1 DC into next ST.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST. **
Repeat from * to ** 10 more times.
(36 DC)
SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With E (Army):
Join into any DC.
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into same DC (corner made); CH 1; (SKIP 2 DC; work 3 SC into next DC; CH 1) twice; SKIP 2 DC.
*Work [3 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into same DC (corner made); CH 1; (SKIP 2 DC; work 3 SC into next DC; CH 1) twice; SKIP 2 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd CH of 3CH;
SL ST into next 2 DC; SL ST into next 3 CH space.
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; CH 3; 3 DC] into corner space, CH 1.
(Work 3 DC into each of next 1 CH spaces) 3 times.

Join with a SL ST into any Front-loop of RND 1:
Work [1 HDC; 1 DC] into same loop;

Repeat from * to ** 4 more times.

Fasten off and weave in yarns.
With second color:
Join with a SL ST into any Front-loop of RND 2:
Work [1 HDC; 1 DC] into same loop; work 2 TR into next loop;
work [1 DC; 1 HDC; SL ST] into next loop.

Fasten off and weave in yarns.
Joining Of Squares:
Color Sequence For Square Rows:
D (Baby Yellow); C (Mustard); B (Nomvula’s Tangerine); A (Crimson); repeat D; C; B; A.
Join squares with either the SL ST method or Single Crochet them together using color E (Army).

5 Solid Squares & 4 Flower Squares.

Row 1 – I (Dark Chocolate)

With RS (right side) facing:
Join first color into 3 CH corner space:
ROW 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into EACH DC and 1 CH space until end of row – SKIP the joins. (176 DC).

Join rows with either the SL ST method or Single Crochet them together using color E (Army).

RND 1: CH 1 (does NOT count as a stitch); work [1 HDC; 2 CH; 1 HDC] into corner space; work 1 HDC into EACH DC and 1 CH space until end of row – SKIP the joins. (176 HDC);

RND 2: CH 1 (does NOT count as a stitch); *work [1 HDC; 2 CH; 1 HDC] into corner space; work 1 HDC into each HDC until next corner.**
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; S ST into first HDC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With E (Army) join into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 3: repeat RND 2.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With I (Dark Chocolate) join into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 4: repeat RND 2.
