WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Vinnis Colours Nikkim (cotton yarn) – approx 30 yards (25 meters) (colors listed in Pattern Notes); Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3 : Light.
  • Hook – 3, 25 mm (D) – I used Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Optional – Stuffing/Fiberfill
  • Optional – Button Googly Eyes/Buttons (1½ cm)
  • Optional – Ready made Pompom

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE:

Easy – Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

PATTERN NOTES:

Gauge:
Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However if you use a different yarn and hook sizing will differ.

Finished Size:
Approx 6 inch (15 cm)

Colors:

  • A – Natural (8 g)
  • B – Mahogany (6 g)
  • C – Chestnut (8 g)
  • D – Sand (3 g)
  • E – Brick Red (2 g)

Let’s Crochet!

Instructions:

With B – make a magic ring/ or CH 4; SL ST to make a ring.

Note: CH 3 at start of each round counts as 1 DC.

RND 1: CH 3; work 2 DC into ring; CH 2; [work 3 DC; CH 2] x 3 times; SL ST into 3rd of 3CH.

RND 2: CH 3; work 1 DC into next 2 DC; work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space;
*work 1 DC into next 3 DC; work [2 DC; 2 CH 2; 2 DC] into next 2 CH corner space. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3CH.
(7 DC on each side)

SL ST into the back-loops of the next 2 DC; SL ST into corner space.

RND 3: CH 3; work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into next 7 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into next 7 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(11 DC on each side)

SL ST into the back-loop of the next DC; SL ST into corner space.

RND 4: CH 3; work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into next 11 DC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into next 11 DC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(15 DC on each side)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Triangles:

With C – join into any corner.

First Triangle:

R0W 1: Work 1 SC into corner space; work 1 SC into next 15 DC; work 1 SC into next corner space; TURN.
(17 DC)
ROW 2: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 13 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(15 SC)
ROW 3: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 11 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(13 SC)
ROW 4: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 9 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(11 SC)
ROW 5: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 7 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(9 SC)
ROW 6: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 5 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(7SC)
ROW 7: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 3 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(5SC)
ROW 8: CH 1; SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 1 SC; SC2tog; TURN.
(3SC)
ROW 9: CH 1; SC3tog; TURN.
(1SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

2nd; 3rd and 4th Triangles:

With C – join into next corner.

Repeat instructions as for 1st Triangle.

Border:

With A – join into any SC3tog (1 SC/Top) of a Triangle.

RND 1: *Work [1 SC; 2 CH; 1 SC] into Triangle Top SC; work up evenly along the side of the triangle 11 SC; work 1 SC into corner space; work up evenly along the side of the next triangle 11 SC. ** (23 SC – NOT including the 2 SC worked at the start).
Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.
(25 SC on each side)

RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into corner space; work 1 DC into next 25 SC.
*Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into next corner space; work 1 DC into next 25 SC. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With D – Antlers: (make 2)

CH 15

Work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into next 4 CH;
CH 7; work 1 DC into 4th CH from hook; work 1 DC into next 4 CH;
Work  2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into remaining 8 CH.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Red Nose:

With E – make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST to form a ring.

RND 1: work 6 SC into ring;
continue working in the round.
RND 2: work 2 SC into each SC;
(12 SC)
RND 3: (work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next SC) x 6 times.
(18 SC)
RND 4: (work 2 SC into next SC; work 1 SC into next 2 SC) x 6 times.
(24 SC)
RND 5-6: work 1 SC into each SC all around.
RND 7: (SC2tog; work 1 SC into next 2 SC) x 6 times.
(18 SC)
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Assemble:

  • Stuff nose lightly (optional) and sew to center of square.
  • Sew eyes into position between the 3rd and 4th rounds of square just above the nose /or embroider eyes.
  • Sew antlers into position – using the corners on each side of the eyes.
  • Embroider a mouth (optional).
