These That 70s Crochet Boot Cuffs are a pair of cute 70’s style inspired boot cuffs, consisting of mini granny squares and an easy stripe pattern.

That 70’s Crochet Boot Cuffs
Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).
Materials
- Hook – 3, 50 mm (E)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- 10 x 2 cm (1 inch) buttons – 5 per cuff.
Yarn:
Vinnis Colours – DK Nikkim 100% cotton (50 grams/119 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
Approx 134 grams / 310 meters
For this project I used an assortment of colors:
A – Natural = approx. 15g
B – Dunes = approx. 20/25g
C – Burnt Orange = approx. 20/25g
D – Camel = approx. 20/25g
E – Golden Brown = approx. 20/25g
F – Chestnut = approx. 20/25g
G – Mahogany = approx. 20/25g
H – Bottle Green = approx. 20/25g
Tension | Gauge
With recommended size hook and yarn – granny square size should be approx. 6 x 6 cm (2,5 x 2,5 inches)
Size
Teen/Adult size boot = 40 cm (16 inches) in width when laid out flat and 19 cm (9,5 inches) from top to bottom. Length can be adjusted to preference.
For smaller or larger boot cuffs – add granny squares or remove granny squares.
Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size the boot cuffs will be a different size!

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side
Instructions:
Repeat Instructions for both Boot Cuffs.
Special Stitch:
Starting Cluster – CH 3 (counts as DC) work 2DCtog (2 double crochet stitches together to form one stitch) into SAME space.
Cluster – work 3DCtog (3 double crochet stitches together to form one stitch) into SAME space.
Mini Cluster Granny Square:
First Square:
With yarn – CH 4; SL ST into first CH to make a ring/or make a magic circle.
RND 1: CH 2 (this does NOT count as a stitch; work 12 DC into ring/circle; SL ST into first DC worked.
(12 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With yarn – join into any DC.
RND 2: Work Starting Cluster; CH 2; *work Cluster into next DC; CH 2.**
Repeat from * to ** 10 more times; SL ST into top of Starting Cluster.
(12 x Clusters; 12 x 2 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With yarn – join into any 2 CH space.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into 2 CH space; (work 2 HDC into next 2 CH space) twice. *Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space; (work 2 HDC into next 2 CH space) twice.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(16 DC; 16 HDC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Second Square:
Repeat instructions from RND 1 – 2 for first square.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into 2 CH space; (work 2 HDC into next 2 CH space) twice.
Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next 2 CH space; (work 2 HDC into next 2 CH space) twice.
Joining – Work 2 DC into next 2 CH space; CH 1; SL ST into opposite corner of previous square.
Note – when working the following stitches; SL ST FIRST into opposite corresponding STITCH of previous square BEFORE completing current STITCH.
SL ST into opposite DC; work DC; SL ST into opposite DC; work DC;
(SL ST into opposite HDC; work HDC; SL ST into opposite HDC; work HDC) twice;
SL ST into opposite DC; work DC; SL ST into opposite DC; work DC;
SL ST into opposite corner of previous square; CH 1.
Work 2 DC into corner; (work 2 HDC into next 2 CH space) twice; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(16 DC; 16 HDC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Continue instructions as for the Second Square for the remaining 5 squares.
Each Boot Cuff has 7 squares.
Color Combos for Square =
One = A, C, B |
Two = A, B, D |
Three = A, D, E |
Four = A, E, H |
Five = A, H, F |
Six = A, F, G |
Seven = A, G, C |
Cuff:
With B – join into 2 CH corner space of first square.
ROW 1: Work 1 SC into 2 CH corners; *work 1 SC into each of next 8 STS; work 2SCtog into next 2 CH corner spaces (over the join).**
Repeat from * to ** 5 more times; work 1 SC into each of next 8 STS; work 1 SC into last 2 CH corner space.
(64 SC); TURN
Note: I opted for a CH 2 and not a CH 3; thus giving a neater edge for the cuff.
ROW 2: CH 2 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each SC across.
(64 DC); TURN
ROW 3: Repeat Row 2.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
With C – Repeat Row 2 = ROWS 4 & 5;
With D – Repeat Row 2 = ROWS 6 & 7;
With E – Repeat Row 2 = ROWS 8 & 9;
With H – Repeat Row 2 = ROWS 10 & 11;
With G – Repeat Row 2 = ROWS 12 & 13
Border:
Turn cuff sideways – with mini square on the right.
With C – join into 2 CH corner space.
RND 1: Work 1 SC into corner space; work 1 SC into next 8 STS; work 1 SC into next 2 CH corner space;
work 1 SC into next SC row; work 2 SC into each DC row (35 SC);
work 1 SC into DC ST (corner); work 1 SC into each DC across (64 SC);
work 2 SC into each DC row; work 1 SC into next SC row;
work 1 SC into next 2 CH corner space; work 1 SC into next 8 STS; work 2 SC into corner space.
*Work 1 SC into each of next 8 STS; work 2SCtog into next 2 CH corner spaces (over the join).**
Repeat from * to ** 5 more times; work 1 SC into each of next 8 STS; work 1 SC into last 2 CH corner space; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Bottom Border:
With H – join into first SC of bottom SC row (2nd SC in the 2 CH corner space)
Work as follows =
*Work 1 SC into next SC; work 1 HDC into next SC; work 1 DC into next SC; work 2 TR into next SC; CH 4; work 3DCtog into 4th CH from hook (Bobble made); SL ST into SAME CH; work 2 TR into next SC; work 1 DC into next SC work 1 HDC into next SC; work 1 SC into next SC; SL ST into next 2SC tog (ST over join).**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; with the exception on the last repeat omit the SL ST and work 1 SC into corner SC. (7 x Bobble Shells)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Buttonholes:
Right Cuff = With C – join into first SC on the left-hand side of fabric – Last DC row worked on cuff.
Work 1 SC into join ST; work 1 SC into next SC; CH 4; SKIP next 3 SC. *Work 1 SC into next 2 SC; CH 4; SKIP next 3 SC.** Repeat from * to ** 3 more times; work 1 SC into remaining side SC; SL ST into last SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Left Cuff = With C – join into first SC worked in 2 CH corner of mini square.
Work 1 SC into join ST; work 1 SC into next 9 SC; CH 4; SKIP next 3 SC.
*Work 1 SC into next 2 SC; CH 4; SKIP next 3 SC.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; work 1 SC into next 2 SC; CH 4; SKIP next 3 SC; work 1 SC into last 2 SC; SL ST into last SC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Attach buttons onto corresponding opposite side of cuff.
