CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop

How to Work Crochet Popcorn Stitch:

Starting Popcorn:

  • CH 3 – this counts as your FIRST DC.
  • Work 4 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Popcorn:

  • Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

How to Work Front-Post Double-Crochet (FPDC):

  • Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches.
  • The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
  • You now have 3 loops on the hook.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice.
  • One front post double crochet (FPDC) is complete.

How to Work 3 Double Crochet Bobble Cluster Stitch (3DC Bobble Cluster):

  • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back into stitch.
  • *Yarn over and draw through stitch. (3 loops)
  • Yarn over, draw through first two loops. (2 loops)
  • Yarn over and insert hook into SAME stitch.**
  • Repeat instructions from * to ** twice. (4 loops)
  • Yarn over and draw through all 4 loop on the hook.
  • One 3 Double Crochet Cluster Bobble Stitch complete.

How to Work Crossed Double Stitch:

For the crossed double crochet stitch (abbreviated crossed dc), you work two double crochet stitches on an angle. When you make a crossed double crochet stitch, you end up with a pattern that looks like an X.

  • Work 1 double crochet stitch into the next stitch.
  • Work 1 double crochet stitch into the SKIPPED stitch.

Note: Work into the BACK LOOPS only.

With (CW 1 – A | CW 2 – D) and 4,00 mm Hook (G)

Joining FIRST and SECOND squares:

Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the SECOND CH of the FIRST square corner space;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the SECOND CH of the SECOND square corner space.

Insert hook from the front to the back of the back-loop of the first ST;
Find the back-loop on the SECOND square to be joined of the EXACT opposite ST of the first square;
Insert hook front the front to the back of that back-loop;
Yarn over;
Pull through all three loops on hook.

Note: As you work slightly tighten yours stitches so that they are nice and tidy.

*Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the next ST of the FIRST square;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the next ST of the SECOND square;
Yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.**

Repeat from * to ** until end of squares.

Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the FIRST CH of the FIRST square corner space;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the FIRST CH of the SECOND square corner space.

Joining THIRD and FOURTH squares:

Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the SECOND CH of the THIRD square corner space;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the SECOND CH of the FOURTH square corner space.

*Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the next ST of the THIRD square;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the next ST of the FOURTH square;
Yarn over and pull through all three loops on hook.**

Repeat from * to ** until end of squares.

Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the FIRST CH of the THIRD square corner space;
Insert hook from the front to back into the back-loop of the FIRST CH of the FOURTH square corner space.

Repeat all the joining instructions once more to complete the joining of the squares.
Note: when working the center section, work over the first joining and continue.

Special Stitch: 5 HDC Popcorn.

5 HDC Popcorn:

  • Work 5 half double crochet (hdc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first half double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

With (CW 1 – A | CW 2 – D) and 4,00 mm Hook (G) join into ANY corner space.

RND 1: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into SAME corner space; work 1 FPDC around each of next 63 STS; work 2DCtog over next – corner space; join; corner space; work 1 FPDC around each of 63 STS.
*Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into SAME corner space; work 1 FPDC around each of next 63 STS; work 2DCtog over next – corner space; join; corner space; work 1 FPDC around each of 63 STS.** Repeat from * to ** two more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(126 FPDC; 1 x 2DCtog; 4 DC on each side = 131 STS x 4 = 524 STS)
ONLY CW 2 – Fasten off and weave in ends.

ONLY CW 2 – With E – join into last STITCH worked.

RND 2: Work 1 SC into SAME ST; work 1 SC into next DC; work [1 SC; CH 1; 1 SC] into next corner space; work 1 SC into each ST until next corner.
*Work [1 SC; CH 1; 1 SC] into corner space; work 1 SC into each ST until next corner.**
Repeat from * to ** two more times; omitting the last two STS of last repeat; SL ST into first SC worked.  (133 SC on each side = 133 x 4 = 532 SC)

Note: For the next round ALL corner 1 CH spaces will be SKIPPED.

RND 3: SL ST into NEXT SC; work 5HDCPopcorn into next SC.
*SL ST into next 2 SC; work 5HDC Popcorn into next SC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into first SL ST.
(44 Popcorns on each side = 176 in total) Fasten off and weave in ends.
