The Eliza Crochet Throw Part One is part of a free crochet along.
A Throw blanket made up of four squares joined together, each square is designed
with a small mandala which is then squared off, with loads of texture and pretty stitch combinations.

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side
Special Stitches:
How to Work Crochet Popcorn Stitch:
Starting Popcorn:
- CH 3 – this counts as your FIRST DC.
- Work 4 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
- Drop the loop from your hook.
- Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
- Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Popcorn:
- Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
- Drop the loop from your hook.
- Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
- Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

How to Work Front-Post Double-Crochet (FPDC):
- Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches.
- The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
- Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
- You now have 3 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice.
- One front post double crochet (FPDC) is complete.

How to Work 3 Double Crochet Bobble Cluster Stitch (3DC Bobble Cluster):
- Yarn over and insert hook from front to back into stitch.
- *Yarn over and draw through stitch. (3 loops)
- Yarn over, draw through first two loops. (2 loops)
- Yarn over and insert hook into SAME stitch.**
- Repeat instructions from * to ** twice. (4 loops)
- Yarn over and draw through all 4 loop on the hook.
- One 3 Double Crochet Cluster Bobble Stitch complete.

How to Work Crossed Double Stitch:
For the crossed double crochet stitch (abbreviated crossed dc), you work two double crochet stitches on an angle. When you make a crossed double crochet stitch, you end up with a pattern that looks like an X.
- Work 1 double crochet stitch into the next stitch.
- Work 1 double crochet stitch into the SKIPPED stitch.

Instructions:
The Squares – Make 4
With A (BOTH CW) and 3, 50 mm Hook (E)
– make a magic ring/or CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 2; work 2DCtog into ring; *CH 3; work 3DCtog into ring.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; CH 3; SL ST into top of 2DCtog.
(8 x DCtog; 8 x 3 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With (CW 1 – E/I | CW 2 – E) – join into any 3 CH space.
RND 2: Work Starting Popcorn into 3 CH space; CH 5.
*Work Popcorn into next 3 CH space; CH 5.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; CH 5; SL ST into top of Starting Popcorn.
(8 x Popcorn; 8 x 5 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With (CW 1 – B/F | CW 2 – E) – join RND 1 space BEFORE a Popcorn.
Note: when working the FPDC around a Popcorn – make certain you are working underneath the 5 CH space made in the previous round. (See photos)
RND 3: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work 1 FPDC around next Popcorn; work 1 TR into RND 1 space AFTER SAME Popcorn; CH 4.
*Work 1 TR into RND 1 space BEFORE next Popcorn; work 1 FPDC around next Popcorn; work 1 TR into RND 1 space AFTER SAME Popcorn; CH 4.**
Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; CH 4; SL ST into 4th CH of 4 CH.
(16 TR; 8 x FPDC; 8 x 4 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With (CW 1 – C/G | CW 2 – C) – join into any 4 CH space.
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 2 DC into SAME 4 CH space; work 1 DC into next TR; work 1 DC into next FPDC; work 1 DC into next TR.
*Work 3 DC into next 4 CH space; work 1 DC into next TR; work 1 DC into next FPDC; work 1 DC into next TR.** Repeat from * to ** 6 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(48 DC)
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into each of next 2 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(64 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With (CW 1 – D/H |CW 2 – D) – join into any DC.
RND 6: Work Starting Popcorn; CH 1; work 1 DC into next DC.
*Work Popcorn into next DC; CH 1; work 1 DC into next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 30 more times; SL ST into top of Starting Popcorn.
(32 Popcorn; 32 DC; 32 x 1 CH spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.
With (CW 1 – E/I CW 2 – E) join into any DC (not a Popcorn).
Note: for this round all 1 CH spaces are SKIPPED.
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next Popcorn.
*Work 1 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next Popcorn.**
Repeat from * to ** all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(64 DC)
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into SAME ST; SKIP next DC; work 1 SC into next DC; SKIP next DC.
*Work 5 DC into next DC; SKIP next DC; work 1 SC into next DC; SKIP next DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 14 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(16 x 5DC groups; 16 SC) Fasten off and weave in ends.
Squaring:
With A (BOTH CW) – join into any SC.
RND 9: CH 4 (counts as 1 TR); work 5 TR into SAME SC;
[CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next DC; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next SC] x 3 times; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next DC; CH 3.
*Work 6 TR into next SC; [CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next DC; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 DC into next SC] x 3 times; CH 3; SKIP next 2 DC; work 1 SC into next DC; CH 3.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 4th of 4 CH.
Note: for this round the DC stitches are worked into the CH stitch and NOT the space below.
RND 10: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into each of next 2 TR; CH 3;
work 1 DC into each of next 3 TR;
[work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH; SKIP SC; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH; SKIP next DC] x 3 times; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH SKIP next SC; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH.
*Work 1 DC into each of next 3 TR; CH 3; work 1 DC into each of next 3 TR;
[work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH; SKIP SC; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH; SKIP next DC] x 3 times; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH SKIP next SC; work 1 DC into each CH of next 3 CH.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
