CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)

Special Stitches:

How to Work Crochet Popcorn Stitch:

Starting Popcorn:

  • CH 3 – this counts as your FIRST DC.
  • Work 4 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

Popcorn:

  • Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

How to Work Front-Post Double-Crochet (FPDC):

  • Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches.
  • The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
  • You now have 3 loops on the hook.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice.
  • One front post double crochet (FPDC) is complete.

How to Work 3 Double Crochet Bobble Cluster Stitch (3DC Bobble Cluster):

  • Yarn over and insert hook from front to back into stitch.
  • *Yarn over and draw through stitch. (3 loops)
  • Yarn over, draw through first two loops. (2 loops)
  • Yarn over and insert hook into SAME stitch.**
  • Repeat instructions from * to ** twice. (4 loops)
  • Yarn over and draw through all 4 loop on the hook.
  • One 3 Double Crochet Cluster Bobble Stitch complete.

How to Work Crossed Double Stitch:

For the crossed double crochet stitch (abbreviated crossed dc), you work two double crochet stitches on an angle. When you make a crossed double crochet stitch, you end up with a pattern that looks like an X.

  • Work 1 double crochet stitch into the next stitch.
  • Work 1 double crochet stitch into the SKIPPED stitch.

The Squares – continued from part one

With (CW 1 – B/F | CW 2 – B) – join into any 3 CH corner space.

RND 11: Work Starting Popcorn; CH 1; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 DC; CH 1.
*Work Popcorn into next corner space; CH 1; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 DC; CH 1.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into top of Starting Popcorn.
(30 FPDC on each side = 120 FPDC; 4 x Popcorn; 8 x 1 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

With (CW 1 – C/G | CW 2 – C) – join into any 1 CH space BEFORE a Popcorn.

RND 12: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME 1 CH space; work 1 FPDC around next Popcorn; work 2 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 FPDC.
*Work 2 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 FPDC around next Popcorn; work 2 DC into next 1 CH space; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 FPDC.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(30 FPDC on each side; 4 x corner FPDC = 124 FPDC; 16 DC) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With (CW 1 – D/H | CW 2 – D) – join into any corner FPDC (around a Popcorn).

RND 13: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into SAME FPDC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 DC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 FPDC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 DC.
*Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next corner FPDC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 DC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 30 FPDC; work 1 FPDC around each of next 2 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(34 FPDC on each side; 16 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With (CW 1 – E/I | CW 2 – E) – join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 14: CH 5 (counts as 1 DC and 2 CH space); work 1 DC into SAME space; work 1 FPDC around next 2 DC; work 1 FPDC around each next 34 FPDC; work 1 FPDC around next 2 DC.
*Work [1 DC; CH 2; 1 DC] into next 2 CH space; work 1 FPDC around next 2 DC; work 1 FPDC around each next 34 FPDC; work 1 FPDC around next 2 DC.**
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 5 CH.
(38 FPDC on each side; 8 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces) Fasten off and weave in ends.

With A (BOTH CW) – join into any 2 CH corner space.

RND 15: Work 3 SC into corner space; work 1 SC into next DC; work 1 SC into each FPDC across; work 1 SC into next DC.
*Work 3 SC into next corner space; work 1 SC into next DC; work 1 SC into each FPDC across; work 1 SC into next DC.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into first SC worked.
(40 SC on each side excluding 3 SC in each corner = 172 SC in Total)

RND 16: SL ST into next SC (this should be the CENTER SC of a corner 3 SC group); CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into SAME SC; (work Crossed DC Stitch (Special Stitches) over next two SC) x 21 times.
*Work [2 DC; CH 2; 2 DC] into next SC; (work Crossed DC Stitch (Special Stitches) over next two SC) x 21 times.** Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(21 Crossed DC Stitches on each side = 84 Crossed DC Stitches; 16 DC; 4 x 2 CH corner spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
