Special Stitches:

How to Work Front-Post Double-Crochet (FPDC):

  • Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second stitch of the row/round below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches.
  • The hook should now be positioned horizontally behind the stitch that you’re working around.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch.
  • You now have 3 loops on the hook.
  • Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice.
  • One front post double crochet (FPDC) is complete.

HDC Starting Popcorn:

  • CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 4 half double crochet (hdc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the 2nd CH of 2 CH.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the chain.

5 HDC Popcorn:

  • Work 5 half double crochet (hdc) stitches in the same stitch.
  • Drop the loop from your hook.
  • Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first half double crochet of the group.
  • Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.

BAG INSTRUCTIONS ONLY:

Spike SC Instructions:
SKIP next SC; work SC into SC directly below SKIPPED SC – (previous row SC)

With E – join into 2nd SC (after the 1 CH space) in any corner.

 RS ROW 1: Work 1 SC into each SC across; work 1 SC into next corner SC (before 1 CH space); TURN (57 SC)

WS ROW 2: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC across; TURN (57 SC)

RS ROW 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into first SC; *work 1 SPIKE SC; work 1 SC into next SC. ** Repeat from * to ** until last 2 SC; work 1 SPIKE SC; work 1 SC into last SC; TURN (57 STS = 28 SPIKE SC; 29 SC)

WS ROW 4: Repeat ROW 2.

RS ROW 5: Repeat ROW 3.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 x 38 more times.

(81 ROWS in total)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

CUSHION AND BLANKET INSTRUCTIONS ONLY:

Note: Be careful NOT to SKIP the previous round HDC when working the FIRST HDC on each side.
It might be slightly hidden behind the popcorn. – NB – count your stitches.

Note: For the next round work into back-loops only.

With B – join into any 1 CH corner space.

RND 22: Work starting HDC Popcorn; CH 3; work 1 HDC into each of next 57 SC; CH 3.
*Work HDC Popcorn into next 1 CH corner space; CH 3; work 1 HDC into each of next 57 SC; CH 3. **
Repeat from * to ** 2 more times; SL ST into top of starting HDC Popcorn.
(57 HDC; 4 x corner HDC Popcorn; 8 x corner 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: For the next 2 rounds work into 3rd loop only.

With C – join into any 3 CH corner space AFTER a HDC Popcorn.

RND 23: Work starting HDC Popcorn; CH 3; work 1 HDC into each of next 57 HDC; CH 3; work HDC Popcorn into next 3 CH corner space; CH 1; work 1 FPDC around next HDC Popcorn, CH 1.
