Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
You will need to know basic stitches like SC (single crochet) and DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and provided in the instructions.

Yarn Substitute:
Using the same type of yarn throughout the project is recommended. The pattern suggests DK yarn (Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light Worsted), but you are not limited to this type of yarn. Any yarn can be used if you take into consideration your sizing for the project will differ.
Tension | Gauge
Gauge is NOT necessary for this project to be perfect.
However COUNTING your stitches will ensure a true success of this project!

Square Approx. 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches)
Cushion Approx. 43 cm x 43 cm (16/17 inches x 16/17 inches)
Remember – if you use/choose a different yarn weight/hook size your square/cushion will be a different size!

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side
SPECIAL STITCHES:
5 DC POPCORN (PC):
Work 5 double crochet (dc) stitches into the same stitch.
Drop the loop from your hook.
Insert your hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of the group.
Grab the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch.
Work 1 CH to ‘close’ the popcorn.
PICOT:
CH 3; SL ST into 3rd CH from hook.
BPSC – back post single crochet
- Step 1:Insert hook from the wrong side of the fabric into the gap to the hook-side of the next stitch to be worked.
- Step 2:Insert hook from front to back around the post into the far-side gap.
- Step 3:Yarn over and draw loop through both gaps.
- Step 4:Yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.
FPDC – front post double crochet
Insert your hook into the front of your work, behind the indicated stitch, and then through your work such that your hook is now at the front of your work again. Pull through final 2 loops on your hook
BPDC – back post double crochet
- Step 1: yarn over on hook.
- Step 2: Insert hook into hole next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side” from back to front
- Step 3: Bring the hook back to the back of the fabric around the post, to the hole farther from the hook.
- Step 4: yarn over and draw through a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops on hook)
- Step 5: yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
- Step 6: yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.
FPTR – front post treble crochet
- Yarn over twice.
- Insert your hook front-to-back through your work, positioning the post that you want to crochet around in front of the hook.
- Yarn over again and pull through. There will be four loops on your hook, just like there would at this stage of a normal treble crochet.
- Proceed as normal with your treble crochet stitch: Yarn over and pull through the first two of the four loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through the next two loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and pull through the final two loops on the hook.
