PART THREE:
5 Mini Squares and Some Sewing
SKILL LEVEL:
Easy
Basic stitches, simple shaping and finishing.
SIZE:
Mini Square Approx – 8.5 cm x 8.5 cm
Blanket Approx – 50 cm x 50 cm
MATERIALS:
Yarns:
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in various colors or
various colors in any yarn available
Approx 25 grams of a Main Color – I used Cream
IMPORTANT NOTE – USE THE SAME TYPE OF YARN THROUGH OUT THE PROJECT!
Don’t stress – the size will just differ if different types are used 🙂
Hooks & Notions:
Size 3.50 Hook / or 4.00 Hook ( I used a 3.50 Hook)
Yarn Needle
GAUGE:
Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect as long as all the blocks are approx. the same size
I use US Crochet stitch terminology
INSTRUCTIONS:
Mini Square: Make 5

Make a magic ring
Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1 DC) , work 2 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into ring. *Work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into ring. Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into top of 3CH
Rnd 2: Work 1 DC into each ST, work 3 DC, 2 CH, 3 DC into each corner. SL ST into first DC
Change color
Rnd 3: Work 1 SC into each ST, work 2 SC, 2 CH, 2 SC into each corner. SL ST into first SC
Change color to main yarn
Rnd 4: Work 1 SC into each ST, work 1 SC, 2 CH, 1 SC into each corner. SL ST into first SC
Fasten off and weave in all ends
Note: If because of tension and the square is smaller than circle mini square repeat round 3 (when done there will be 5 rounds).

Sewing the blocks together:

Alternate the mini blocks and sew them onto the
Small Squares with the Add on.
Use photo as guide.

Now there are four big blocks.

Sew these together as shown in photo above.

I used the whip-stitch method to sew my blocks together.

This big block should approx measure about
50 cm x 50 cm
Don’t stress if it doesn’t 🙂
(Mine is in truth 49 cm x 52 cm, but don’t tell anyone 😉 )

Hi Trudy 🙂 It should read repeat 2 times! Will fix it immediately 🙂 It your square is smaller just add a single crochet round – repeat round 3, then do round 4! From everyone that has done this CAL, I really appreciate that you inform me of my errors! Thank you 🙂
1st round doesn't work out…too many sts and doesn't look like picture…should it read : 3ch, 2dc,2ch, 3dc, (2ch, 3dc) x 2, 2ch, join with sl st to top of beginning 3ch? Thanks …keep undoing…also this square seems to be smaller than circle square in week 2…coming along slowly 🙂
Such a cute idea for scrap yarn! Thanks for sharing at CAL # 96: http://www.mazkwok.com/2015/06/crafting-along-96.html
Thank you Carol! If you need any help, please just ask 🙂
This is so adorable, Joanita! I have yet to master granny squares, even though they are supposed to be easy according to all the expert crocheters. I'm going to give this a try, because your tutorial is very good!
Thank You Nicole! 🙂
Wow, this is amazing! I love to sew but I am someone who struggles with knitting a scarf so this looks like the impossible has been done to me! Found you on Snickerdoodle Sunday. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you 🙂
So pretty. Love all the colors. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes, Darlene
