Bobble Stripes Crochet Square

Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.

You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

  • Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
    Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)

WS – Wrong side

INSTRUCTIONS:

SPECIAL STITCHESMB – make bobble:
Work 4 DC (double crochet) stitches together. Working into the same stitch – {yarn around hook, draw up a loop, yarn around hook, pull through two loops on the hook] repeat four times, yarn around hook and pull through all five loops on hook.

Foundation Chain:
CH 28
ROW 1 (Wrong Side):
Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each CH until end (27 SC), TURN.

ROW 2: CH 1, work 1 SC into each SC until end (27 SC), TURN.

ROW 3-4: Repeat row 2
change to new color when working last SC of row 4, TURN.

ROW 5: CH 1, work 1 SC into next SC, {MB into next SC, work 1 SC into next 5 SC} repeat 4 times, MB into next SC, work 1 SC into last SC – change to new color on last ST, TURN.

ROW 6-10: Repeat row 2.

Change to new color when working last SC of row 10, TURN.

ROW 11: Repeat row 5 – change to new color on last ST, TURN.

ROW 12-16: Repeat row 2
change to new color when working last SC of row 16, TURN.

ROW 17: Repeat row 5 – change to new color on last ST, TURN.

ROW 18-22: Repeat row 2
change to new color when working last SC of row 22, TURN.

ROW 23: Repeat row 5 – change to new color on last ST, TURN.

ROW 24-28: Repeat row 2
change to new color when working last SC of row 28, TURN.

ROW 29: Repeat row 5 – change to new color on last ST, TURN.

ROW 30-33: Repeat row 2
Fasten off and weave in ends.

BORDER: (Change Color)

RND 1: Join yarn into any CH along last row, CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each ST until corner,  work 3 DC into corner, work 27 DC evenly along row-end edge, work 1 DC into next 25 foundation edge CHs, work 3 DC into corner, work 27 DC evenly along row-end edge, work 3 DC into corner, work 1 DC into remaining STS until end of round., join with a SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3CH

RND 2: CH 1, work 1 SC into each DC of previous round, work 3 SC into center DC of each 3 DC corner, join with a SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
