Popcorns and Flower Crochet Square
Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.
You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

- Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. - Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

Abbreviations: US Terminology
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

SPECIAL STITCHES:
BEG CL – beginning cluster: CH 3; [ (yarn over hook) x 2, insert hook, yarn around hook, draw a loop through, yarn around hook, draw through 2 loops ] x 3 into same stitch or space; yarn around hook, draw through all 4 loops on hook.
CL – CLUSTER: [ (yarn around hook) x 2, insert hook, yarn around hook, draw a loop through, yarn around hook, draw through 2 loops ] x 4 in same stitch or space, yarn around hook, draw though all 5 loops on hook
BEG PC – beginning popcorn: CH 3 (counts as dc), work 4 DC into same stitch or space, remove hook from loop, insert hook in 3rd CH of beg 3 CH, pick up the dropped loop and pull yarn through.
PC – POPCORN: Work 5 DC into same stitch or space, remove hook from loop, insert hook into first of 5 DC just made, pick up the dropped loop and pull yarn through.
INSTRUCTIONS:
FOUNDATION RING:
CH 8 and join with a SL ST into the first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: Beg CL in ring;
*CH 3; work CL into ring, CH 5, work CL into ring. Repeat from * twice more;
CH 3, work CL into ring, CH 5, join with a SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends
RND 2: Join new color with a SL ST into any 3 CH space;
CH 1, work 1 SC into same space;
*work 9 DC into 5 CH space; work 1 SC into next 3 CH space. Repeat from * till end, not working the last SC but joining with a SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 3: Join new color with a SL ST into any SC.
Beg PC into same SC;
*CH 2, SKIP next 2 DC, work 1 DC into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next DC;
work [2 DC, CH 3, 2 DC] into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next DC, work 1 DC into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next 2 DC, work 1 PC into next SC. Repeat from * twice more.
CH 2, SKIP next 2 DC, work 1 DC into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next DC;
work [2 DC, CH 3, 2 DC] into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next DC, work 1 DC into next DC, CH 2, SKIP next 2 DC, join with a SL ST into top of first PC.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 4: Join new color with a SL ST into any corner 3 CH space;
Work 1 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC into same space;
Work 1 DC into each DC; 2 DC into each 2 CH space; 1 DC into the top of each PC; and
2 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC into each corner 3 CH space.
SL ST into top of 3rd of beginning 3 CH
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 5: Join new color with a SL ST into any corner 3 CH space;
Work 1 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC into same space;
*Work 1 DC into next 3 STS, work 1 PC into next ST,
work 1 DC into next 3 STS, SKIP 2 STS;
work [1 DC, 3 CH, 1 DC] into next ST,
SKIP 2 STS, work 1 DC into next 3 STS,
work 1 PC into next ST, work 1 DC into next 3 STS,
work [2 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC] into 3 CH space.
Repeat from * 3 more time, SKIPPING THE LAST corner instructions and joining with a SL ST into the 3rd CH of the starting 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 6: Join new color with a SL ST into any corner 3 CH space;
Work 1 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC into same space;
Work 1 DC into each DC; 1 DC into top of each PC, 2 DC into each 3 CH space (V ST of previous round); and work [2 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC] into each 3 CH corner space.
SL ST into top of 3rd of beginning 3 CH
Fasten off and weave in ends.
RND 7: Join new color with a SL ST into any corner 3 CH space;
Work 1 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC into same space;
work 1 DC into each DC all around; and [2 DC, 3 CH, 2 DC] into each 3 CH corner space.
SL ST into top of 3rd CH of 3 CH space.
RND 8: CH 1, work 3 SC into 3 CH corner space, work 1 SC into each DC all around; and working 3 SC into each 3 CH corner space. Join with a SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

You click on the Printfriendly Button at the bottom of the post, then on the screen that pops up right on the top bar there is an option to Remove Images, select this and it will remove all the photos, leaving only the written pattern. 🙂
How do I print the pattern WITHOUT the tutorial…I don’t want to print 20 pages.
