Little Sailor Hat

Double knitting/medium worsted yarn
50 grams of double knitting/medium worsted yarn in: white/beige
Small amounts of double knitting/light worsted yarn in: red

Size 5, 00mm & 3.50 mm Hook

GAUGE:
22sts x 30 rows = 8x 8cm
Use hook specified or hook size to obtain tension/gauge
Hat size will vary with size hook used.

3-6 months =
Size 4.00/4.50 mm Hook :
22sts x 30 10 x 10cm

6-12 months =
Size 4.50/5.00 mm Hook :
22sts x 30 12 x 12cm

I use US Crochet stitch terminology

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SC – single crochet
HDC – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
DECR – work 2 STS together (SC2tog for this pattern)
MM – move stitch marker
SL ST – slip stitch
FO – fasten off

INSTRUCTIONS:

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

With double knitting/medium worsted beige/white  yarn and size 5.00 mm hook: CH2

Rnd 1: Work 6 SC in second CH from hook. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). MM

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). MM

Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). MM

Rnd 5: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next three STS. Repeat from * around (30 SC). MM

Rnd 6: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next four STS. Repeat from * around (36 SC). MM

Rnd 7: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next five STS. Repeat from * around (42 SC). MM

Rnd 8: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next six STS. Repeat from * around (48 SC). MM

Rnd 9: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next seven STS. Repeat from * around (54 SC). MM

Rnd 10: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next eight STS. Repeat from * around (60 SC). MM

Rnd 11 – 20: Work 1 SC into each ST until end (60 SC) MM

Rnd 21: For this rnd only work in backloops – CH1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (60 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 22: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (60 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 23: CH1, *work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 9 STS. Repeat from * until end (66 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 24: CH1, *work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 10 STS. Repeat from * until end (72 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 25: CH1, *work 2 SC into next ST, work 1 SC into next 11 STS. Repeat from * until end (78 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 26 – 28: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (78 SC), SL ST into first SC

Rnd 29: SL ST loosely into each ST until end. FO and weave in ends.

Star Applique:

With double knitting/light worsted red yarn and size 3.50 mm hook:

CH4, join with SL ST to form a ring

Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1DC), work 9DC into the ring, join with SL ST into top of CH3

Rnd 2: *CH5, work 1SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1HDC into next CH, work 1DC into next 2 CH. Skip next ST, SL ST into next ST, repeat from * until end.  SL ST into base of first 5CH, FO and leave a tail for sewing Star onto the front of the hat
