Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.
You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

- Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. - Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)

Square – 9 x 9 inches (23 x 23 cm)
SPECIAL STITCHES:
Beg PC (beginning popcorn): CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into the same stitch; REMOVE your hook from the loop; INSERT hook into the 3rd CH of the 3 CH; INSERT your hook into the dropped loop; YARN OVER and pull thru both loops on your hook.
PC (popcorn): Work 5 DC into the same stitch; REMOVE your hook from the loop; INSERT hook into the FIRST DC worked; INSERT your hook into the dropped loop; YARN OVER and pull thru both loops on your hook.
COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink
INSTRUCTIONS:
With B
FOUNDATION RING:
CH 10; join with a SL ST into the first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 1; work 16 SC into ring; join with a SL ST into first SC ( 16 SC).
RND 2: Work BEG PC into the first SC; CH 3; SKIP the next SC; work [PC into next SC; CH 3; SKIP next SC] 7 times; join with a SL ST into the BEG PC. (8 PC and 8 x 3 CH spaces)
Beg PC (beginning popcorn): CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 4 DC into the same stitch; REMOVE your hook from the loop; INSERT hook into the 3rd CH of the 3 CH; INSERT your hook into the dropped loop; YARN OVER and pull thru both loops on your hook.
PC (popcorn): Work 5 DC into the same stitch; REMOVE your hook from the loop; INSERT hook into the FIRST DC worked; INSERT your hook into the dropped loop; YARN OVER and pull thru both loops on your hook.
RND 3: CH 1; work 1 SC into same ST (top of PC); *CH 6; work 1 SC into the top of the NEXT PC.
Repeat from, * 6 more times; CH 6; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join C into any 6 CH space
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [4 DC; 3 CH; 5 DC] into corner; CH 3; work 1 SC into NEXT 6 CH space; CH 3.
*Work [5 DC; 3 CH; 5 DC] into NEXT 6 CH space; CH 3; work 1 SC into NEXT 6 CH space; CH 3.
Repeat from * 2 more times. SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join D into any 3 CH corner space
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [4 DC; 3 CH; 5 DC] into corner; CH 4; work 1 SC into NEXT 3 CH space; CH 3; work 1 SC into NEXT 3 CH space; CH 4.
