Any leftover; scraps of yarn (I used leftover medium worsted yarn)
Small amounts approx 20 – 50 yards
Hooks & Notions:
Hook 4.00 mm
Yarn needle

Abbreviations:
CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet
DC – double crochet
2DCtog – work 2 double crochet together
3DCtog – work 3 double crochet together

Notes:
I use US Crochet stitch terminology.
Due to the nature of this pattern – the yarn and hook used is only a suggestion and any substitute may be used.
Size of finished product will vary depending on yarn and also size of hook used.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Make a magic ring

RND 1: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 7 HDC into ring (8 HDC)
RND 2: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into same ST.
Work 2 HDC into each ST (16 HDC); SL ST into 2nd CH of 2 CH.
RND 3: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into same ST; work 1 HDC into next ST.
*Work 2 HDC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next ST. Repeat from * all around (24 HDC); SL ST into 2nd CH of 2 CH.
RND 4: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into same ST; work 1 HDC into next 2 STS.
*Work 2 HDC into next ST; work 1 HDC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * all around (32 HDC); SL ST into 2nd CH of 2 CH.
RND 5: for this round work only in back loops – CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC); work 1 HDC into each ST until end (32 HDC); change color to red yarn – SL ST into 2nd CH of 2 CH.
NOTE: do not cut the white

RND 6: CH 3; [work 2DCtog; CH 2; work 3DCtog] into the same ST; *CH 3; SKIP next 3 STS; work [3DCtog; CH 2; 3DCtog] into next ST. Repeat from * until end; CH 3 – change color to white; SL ST into first 2DCtog. CUT red yarn and weave in ends.
RND 7: SL ST into 2 CH space; CH 1; work 1 SC into 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 SC into 2nd ST of SKIPPED 3 STS of round 6; CH 2.
*Work 1 SC into 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 SC into 2nd ST of SKIPPED 3 STS of round 6; CH 2. Repeat until end; SL ST into first SC worked.
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.
Repeat from * until end – change yarn to pink – SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.

RND 9: CH 3; [work 2DCtog; CH 2; work 3DCtog] into the same ST; *CH 3; SKIP next 3 STS; work [3DCtog; CH 2; 3DCtog] into next ST. Repeat from * until end; CH 3 – change color to white; SL ST into first 2DCtog. CUT pink yarn and weave in ends.
RND 10: SL ST into 2 CH space; CH 1; work 1 SC into 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 SC into 2nd ST of SKIPPED 3 STS of round 6; CH 2.
*Work 1 SC into 2 CH space; CH 2; work 1 SC into 2nd ST of SKIPPED 3 STS of round 6; CH 2. Repeat until end; SL ST into first SC worked.
RND 11: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.
*Work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space; work 1 DC into next SC; work 1 DC into next 2 CH space.
Repeat from * until end; SL ST into 3rd CH of 3 CH.

RND 12: CH 1; work 1 SC into same ST; work 1 SC into each ST all around (32 SC); SL ST into first SC. Fasten off and weave in ends.

*Work 2 SC into next ST; work 1 SC into next 2 STS. Repeat from * all around. SL ST into first SC worked. (48 SC)

RND 5: working over 4 STS – [1 SC; 2 DC; 1 SC; SL ST] – repeat all around.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
