This Spiked Flower Crochet Granny Square is part of the 2017 Crochet A Block Crochet Along.
Interlocked Crochet Granny Square
Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate
Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.
You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

- Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light. - Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)

BLP – back loop
RS – Right side

COLORS: A – aran; B – blue; C – grey; D – pink
INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: my photos do not show the SL ST color change – due to that I wanted to show the pattern and the steps – I did however before continuing the next round do the SL ST color change!
With B
FOUNDATION RING:
CH 6; join with a SL ST into the first CH to form a ring.
RND 1: CH 1; work [3 SC into ring; CH 10] 4 times; changing to C when joining with a SL ST into first SC.
RND 2: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next ST; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
Repeat from * 2 more times (20 DC); changing to D when joining with a SL ST into first DC.
RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into next 3 STS; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 3 STS; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
Repeat from * 2 more times (28 DC); changing to A when joining with a SL ST into first DC.
RND 4: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into next 5 STS; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 5 STS; work 2 DC into next ST; CH 12.
Repeat from * 2 more times (36 DC); changing to B when joining with a SL ST into first DC.
RND 5: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME ST; work 1 DC into next 7 STS; work 2 DC into next ST;remove hook from current stitch loop;
insert hook into the ‘blue’ loop; pull thru the ‘grey’ loop;
insert hook into ‘grey’ loop; pull thru the ‘pink’ loop;
insert hook into ‘pink’ loop; pull thru the ‘cream/white’ loop;
reinsert hook into dropped stitch loop and work 5 DC into ‘cream/white’ loop.
*Work 2 DC into next ST; work 1 DC into next 7 STS; work 2 DC into next ST; remove hook from current stitch loop;
insert hook into the ‘blue’ loop; pull thru the ‘grey’ loop;
insert hook into ‘grey’ loop; pull thru the ‘pink’ loop;
insert hook into ‘pink’ loop; pull thru the ‘cream/white’ loop;
reinsert hook into dropped stitch loop and work 5 DC into ‘cream/white’ loop.
Repeat from * 2 more times (44 DC plus 5 DC x 4 is 20 DC = 64 DC).
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 6: CH 1; work 1 SC into each SC all around – working 3 SC into the 3rd DC of each 5 DC corner group (72 SC).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join C into any center SC of any corner 3 SC group
RND 7: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into same SC;
SKIP next 3 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 2 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 3 SC CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 2 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
*SKIP next 3 SC; CH 1; work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next SC;
SKIP next 3 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 2 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 3 SC CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
SKIP next 2 SC; CH 1; work 3 DC into next SC;
Repeat from * 2 more times; SKIP next 3 SC; CH 1; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join D into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 8: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into 2 CH space – first corner made.[CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 5; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH space; [CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 5; CH 1. Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join A into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 9: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [2 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into 2 CH space – first corner made.[CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 6; CH 1.
*Work [3 DC; 2 CH; 3 DC] into next 2 CH space; [CH 1; SKIP 3 DC; work 3 DC into next 1 CH space] x 6; CH 1. Repeat from * 2 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Join B into any 2 CH corner space.
RND 10: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work [1 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into same 2 CH space; work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space;
[Work [2 DC; 2 CH; 2 DC] into 2 CH corner space;
work 1 DC into each DC and 1 CH space of previous round until next 2 CH corner space.] x 3;
SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
RND 11: CH 1 (please note this does not count as a ST); work 1 SC into each DC of previous round – work 3 SC into each corner; SL ST into first SC worked.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Final Stitch Count = 35 SC on each side PLUS 3 SC in each corner
