Framed Flower Circle Crochet Granny Square

Difficulty Level/Skill Required: Easy – Intermediate

Basic stitches in simple variations, simple repeats, color changes, shaping and finishing.
Includes more involved stitch combinations like the popcorn stitch.

You will need to know basic stitches like the DC (double crochet).
Special stitches explained and links to tutorials are provided.

Supplies/Materials:

  • Yarn – Charity Double Knit Pullskein (100g / 255 yards / 233 meters)
    Weight – DK (11 wpi) 3: Light.
  • Hook – 4.00 mm (G) – Clover
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

CH – chain
SL ST – slip stitch
SC – single crochet (UK – DC)
HDC – half double crochet (UK – HTR)
DC – double crochet (UK – TR)
TR – treble crochet (UK – DTR)
BLP – back loop
RS – Right side
WS – Wrong side

Size:
Square – 9 x 9 inches (23 x 23 cm)

Special Stitches:

BPDC:
Step 1: yarn over;
Step 2: insert hook into the hole (gap) next to the post of the next stitch, on the “hook side” from back to front
Step 3: bring the hook back to the back of the fabric around the post, to the hole farther from the hook.
Step 4: yarn over and draw through a loop, bringing it through both sides of the fabric. (3 loops remaining on hook)
Step 5: yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook. (2 loops remaining on hook)
Step 6: yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops on hook.

BEG CL: Make 3 CH, then yarn over insert hook into the ring;
yarn over over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops ( 2 loops left on hook); yarn over hook; insert hook into ring;
yarn over and pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops (3 loops on hook left); yarn over hook; insert hook into ring;
yarn over pull thru;
yarn over and pull thru first 2 loops (4 loops on hook left); yarn over and pull thru all 4 loops.

CL: Work 4DCtog (work 4 double crochet together)

With color D

CH 6; SL ST into first CH to form a ring

RND 1: BEG CL; CH 3;
*work CL into ring; CH 3. Repeat from * 4 more times.
SL ST into top of BEG CL
(6 Clusters; 6 x 3 CH spaces)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color A into any 3 CH space

RND 2: *CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 3 DC into SAME 3 CH space; work 2 DC into the top of next CL.
*Work 4 DC into next 3 CH space; work 2 DC into top of next CL.
Repeat from * 4 more times; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
(36 DC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join color B into any DC

RND 3: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC); work 1 DC into SAME DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
*Work 2 DC into next DC; work 1 DC into next 2 DC.
Repeat from all around; SL ST into 3rd of 3 CH.
